1. 10 Creative Ways to Say 'Thank You.'
===================================
Thanksgiving Day comes once a year in the U.S., but every day there are people in our lives who deserve our thanks. Sometimes a simple, 'Thank you' is appropriate, and other times, it is more thoughtful to be creative in expressing appreciation. Here are some suggestions you may find helpful as you think of people at home, at work, and in the community.
1. When you say 'Thank you' tell the person specifically what it is you appreciate and why you appreciate it. 'Thank you for going to the Post Office for me. It saved me a lot of time.'
2. Send an e-mail note or an online greeting card.
3. Send a hand-written thank you note. These are noteworthy because so few of us take time to write and mail them.
4. Place an unexpected phone call just to say 'Thank you.' Connecting verbally adds warmth to your appreciation even if you reach voice mail.
5. Present a small certificate. Half-page certificates take up less space if displayed and are as meaningful as full sized certificates. They tend to draw attention because they are different.
6. Give a single flower from your garden, flowerpot, or florist, with a verbal 'Thank you' or a note.
7. Put a candy bar or piece of fruit on the desk of the person to be thanked, with or without a note. (Be sure the person is not on vacation!)
8. Bake some cookies. This is especially effective when men bake and present a few cookies in thanksgiving.
9. Say something nice about the recipient of your thanks when he or she can overhear you. This is especially powerful in a business setting.
10. For special occasions, present a US flag that has flown over the Capitol. It is a unique, reasonably priced item which few people own. A certificate of authenticity is provided in honor of any special occasion you designate. Call your congressman's office and ask for it. If you don't have a local contact, call 202 224-3121 and ask for your congressman or congresswoman by name. When you reach that person's office, ask to purchase a flag. They'll know what to do!

2. Master the Power of a Master-Mind Group
=========================================
With the frenzied pace of today's business world, we all need help identifying and planning our future financial moves. Even more important, we need contacts and resources to make our goals reality. Master-mind groups are spawning all over the country, offering support, and specialized knowledge to people in every industry and sector.
A master-mind group consists of people who work together in harmony to achieve diverse goals. While one member may be focused on acquiring property, another may be a mortgage broker interested in securing financing for clients. Another member may be an attorney interested in building her client base. Each can contribute information from a different perspective and each can gain from the specialized knowledge of the others. Although members may eventually do business with each other, that is not a prerequisite. The objective is to create an attitude open to new ideas; to look at issues from different perspectives, like examining the facets of a diamond. Operating in harmony with each other, sharing ideas, allows one to not only gain from other members, but also to tap into universal knowledge-inspiration.
Group members get together at regular intervals to brainstorm ideas, share knowledge, and help each other discover the tools to realize their dreams. While these people work well together, they may be very different from each other. The common element is that each draws something from the others, and each contributes freely to the group. It is the focusing of each mind on a common issue that triggers thoughts not readily available to one mind. Those in the group draw upon their unique experiences and specialized knowledge to help each other.
When many minds concentrate on a single point, the activity generates a power over and above the sum total of each of the individual minds. It is as though an invisible force joins the group and provides additional insight. As a result, the group members accomplish more than any one person could have accomplished individually.
I have participated in many such groups and realized enormous benefits. The first book I wrote, 101 Ways to Improve Your Communication Skills Instantly, was brought into being with the assistance of a mastermind group. Coauthor, Bennie Bough, and I belonged to the same group and as we wrote, the other members provided a sounding board and provided suggestions for everything from editing to design. Now that book is in its fourth edition in the US; it is published in 11 countries in 9 different languages. That's what I call success!
================================================
I encourage everyone to reach out, find a mastermind group or form one. You will see how it provides stimulating new ideas and know how. I've just completed a Mastermind Manual ebook that you would find helpful in creating such a group. In it Mark Sanborn, CSP, Past President of the National Speakers Association, tells of some of his experiences with a MasterMind Group. Sheryl Roush, author of Heart of a Woman, CEO of SparkleTudes, tells how she belongs to groups with different focuses: spiritual and business. And Jim Whelan, MBA, tells how mastermind groups help in strategic planning. Find it at http://www.mastermindmanual.com

3. Leadership - Successful People are not Necessarily Good Leaders, By Mark Shead
===========================================
Many people assume that if someone is successful it is because they have good leadership skills. Some people assume that if a business is successful it is because it has good leaders. Leadership isn't something that is particularly easy to pass on to other people. Sometimes a company is successful because a past leader was very skilled as a leader and the current leader simply has kept things running the same as before. Great leadership is a rare skill. For most people it doesn't come naturally. It is amazing how many organizations are successful even though they have only marginally competent people leading them. Many times this is because the structure of the organization helps make up for a leaders short comings. Sometimes it is because a particularly talented staff that makes up for the leaders deficiencies. While great leadership skills can make someone successful, the inverse is not true. Being successful doesn't make you a good leader. If you are looking for leaders to learn from make sure you are looking for people who actually have good leadership skills and not just someone who is successful. You can't assume that someone is a good leader just because they have had success. Many times people try to emulate people who have had success and try to follow their leadership styles. While this might be a good thing people often end up mimicking the bad habits of individuals. Don't assume that someone's leadership style is effective just because they are successful. Many times they may be successful in spite of their leadership skills not because of their leadership skills. 'You're right about being thankful. Today I went to church and I started to ask a blessing for everyone who came to mind from a mental list of family and friends. After 50+ I stopped because the service was progressing without me. Just on relationships alone, most people are gold mines, but sometimes don't realize it.' ~Larry Welch, American Friend in Singapore Dear Reader, How long is your gratitude list? We are very grateful to have you in our circle of friends!
