Since my second father dad has his bypass operation last February, I've noticed a drastic, yet flavorful change in my mother's cooking. Nothing tastes "heavy" anymore. So I did a little research:

www.Deliciousdecisions.org is one of the most practical sites I've found that "speaks plain talk" about health, and the site itself is like a little flip-book, especially the Cookbook part (center tab of the book).

Just place a checkmark next to your option, and it shows you the recipes to use, in addition to so many other things.

II. OPTIONS FOR UNBIASED BETTER TV:

NOT your typical tv station: www.tvoneonline.com, created by Cathy Hughes, founder of the RadioOne empire. Cathy is as down to earth as Oprah, but tend to, in my opinion, not play favorites when it comes to news and is unafraid of tackling controversy. (Funny a black woman had to come up with a tv station like this FIRST!, but I'm not surprised. And she can't stand George Bush, but has enough class to have a black republican, Armstrong Williams, on a show called "ON POINT" who isn't biased, but states the facts--even though he loves George Bush, Cathy still hired him.)


I highly recommend TV-One. (Channel 173 for our area in Muncie.) It's good CLEAN television that's still exciting, family-friendly and informative. I'm not afraid for my grandson to watch if I leave the room. (Find out where it is on your cable station at www.tvoneline.com) or call your local cable channel. BET television does NOT represent ME, especially since they lost my favorite commentators, Ed Gordon and Tavis Smiley.

III. DANCE IN THE KITCHEN
A wonderful new soul food healthy cooking program now airs on TV-One is called "Turning Up The Heat" with I guy I now call "The "Ebony Emeril". The chef's name is G. Garvin, he's as beautifully chocolate as Wesley Snipes and upbeat music is playing in the background as he cooks on his new show, "Turning Up the Heat." Emeril and this dude in the kitchen--well, a duel would definitely be goin' on!


If you liked watching shows (to name a few) like Good Times, 227, Boston Public, the OLD Showtime at the Apollo, Radio DJ Tom Joyner's Live Sky Show, and unbiased political and social documentaries with balanced coverage, REGARDLESS of your ethnicity, keep this station as a favorite. Find them all at www.tvoneonline.com

IV. FORGET MARTHA STEWART, B. SMITH IS THE QUEEN:

TV One features lifestyle programs like B.Smith With Style (www.bsmithwithstyle.com); and "Starting Over", (a reality show for women who seek genuine change and friendship in their lives, not some cheesy makeover). Also a program called "Livin' It Up with Patti LaBelle.

V. YOU GOT THE POWER(TALK)
And we cannot forget the talk program out of Atlanta that is featuring me every blue moon (the only times I seem to be free) on at least one Monday night--He Said, She Said, the relationship talk show at:

VI. UNFORGETABLE: ALZHEIMERS AND THE HOLIDAYS
Soon I'll be writing an essay about the difference between holidays when my grandmother remembered, and the holidays like this year, where saying Merry Christmas to her will be forgotten the minute the words pass thru her ears. TV One advertised a segment for Alzheimers Care on one their shows by sharing this information with viewers.
