Gene Jones (g.m.jones), raised in southeastern North Carolina and graduated in 1968 from Lumberton High School. A draftee, he entered the United States Army in 1969. After being discharged in 1973, he enlisted back into the Army, in 1975. He retired from the Army in 1992. His military career took him to Vietnam, Germany, Panama, and various stateside assignments. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 1992, at the ripe age of 43. Further work took him to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq. Disillusioned at the plight of the young Black males, in the United States, he shares his life experiences hoping to encourage and motivate them to be productive citizens. Through life experiences, he learned that a Black male must realize that he and only he controls his fate and his destiny.
