1. EDITORIAL:
June is almost here and bringing us sunshine and positive attitudes! I hope this inspires you with new ideas and your creative juices flow to overflowing. Feel your cup fill up and pour it out to share with everyOne! There is so much to write about and although many have written on the same themes and topics, nobody can write it from YOUR perspective. Clear away those cobwebs and build new strings of silk that is longer lasting and lustrous and travel along to new horizons. Each strand will take you down a unique path. Listen to your intuition and heed its messages. Write, rewrite, edit, and send those submissions in! This week’s environmentally conscious product I’m sharing with you is J.R. By profession, Bridget Haggerty is a freelance advertising copywriter. She is also the author of The Traditional Irish Wedding, which was published in Ireland by Wolfhound Press and in the United States by Irish Books & Media. She is currently working on her next book which will focus on growing up Irish. Essentially, the book is a compilation of childhood memories from people all over the world who were either born and raised in Ireland or who grew up in an Irish family elsewhere. I enjoy a mixture of poetry and short stories. Please note I do mean short! Poetry that I write tends to be inspired by my photography or God. Just turned 31, I am happily married, and we have a beautiful dog called Kes who is my only baby. I work part time as a Project Manager arranging courses and activities for the over 50+'s. I am an active Christian and I am fortunate enough to work for my church in the above job. I suffer from a disease called endometriosis, which prevents me from doing a full time job, but has enabled me to discover my more creative side. Brenda Ross (aka Brerfox) was born in England. I had always wanted to be a writer but until I had met my husband, I had spent all my life in the temperate climate of England. In this halcyon atmosphere, my dreams of being a writer never materialized. Our marriage involved a five-year sojourn in the sweltering tropics of West Africa. The heat, the snakes and malarial insect bites, atrophied the creative part of my brain. My only writing consisted of long, descriptive letters home. When we immigrated to Manitoba, Canada, the perishing cold stiffened my bones into frozen caricatures. It wasn't until I retired that I began to take my writing seriously. I have had several articles published in the Canadian Writer's Journal and Canadian Author and was placed in a few short story and poetry contests. Another wonderful and very witty web site by Julie Lewis. Here’s what she has to say! ‘I am told I have a strange sense of humoUr, but I don't think it's strange, it's just British. We laugh at strange things over here. Some things I don't find at all amusing, the main one being politics, so you will not find any political humoUr on this site. I am not a fan of slapstick comedy either, so there isn't likely to be any of that. There will no cruel humoUr, either. The funniest things are to be found in everyday life in my opinion. I have had some incredible laughs just by listening to the funny things my kids say. The simple logic of a child can be incredibly amusing, although because they don't see it that way they sometimes get rather annoyed when adults laugh at what they say, which makes it even funnier, of course. The clever use of language is also something I find amazingly funny at times. I am a great fan of puns and malapropisms and all that sort of thing, so if you know any good ones, send them in! I hope you will enjoy your visit to Words of Wit and that you'll call again often’.
