1. EDITORIAL:

Welcome back everyone and hello and welcome new subscribers! Wonderful news on the new website I’ve acquired, ‘www.sellwritingonline.com’. I now have a Web host for the site and have started designing it. My goal is to have it launched sometime in September. I’ll keep you posted! It’s also been brought to my attention that AOL users can’t click on links in the newsletter like the rest of the world. This week I’m attempting to remedy this by adding the code for AOL users. I’ve only done it on the Winners Web sites to make sure I’m doing it correctly before I do the entire newsletter. Let’s see how I’ve succeeded! *~;) Another devoted subscriber has requested I give a little blurb alongside the Winners Web sites I share and I’ve done that this week too. On this date in History:
August 15, 1969 - At Yasgur's Farm in Bethel, New York, The Woodstock Music and Art Festival began. The three-day long festival brought in a crowd of over 500,000 people, and became one of the most famous rock and folk concert festivals of all time. The farm was owned by Max Yasgur in an area of Sullivan County, New York called Bethel. Performers included: Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Country Joe and the Fish, Santana, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, and many more.

Did You Know? Soldiers arrived to fight the Battle of Marne in World War I — not on foot or by military airplane or military vehicle — but by taxi cabs. France took over all the taxi cabs in Paris to get soldiers to the front.
Did You Know? Ida May Fuller of Brattlebor, Vermont was the first U.S. citizen to receive a Social Security check. She lived to be over 100 and collected her first check in 1940. She collected over $20,000 in total benefits.
Did You Know? The kiwi, national bird of New Zealand, can't fly. It lives in a hole in the ground, is almost blind, and lays only one egg each year. Despite this, it has survived for more than 70 million years.
Did You Know? Rome has more homeless cats per square mile than any other city in the world.
Did You Know? Gardenias and orange blossoms both smell terrific, but when placed together in the same bouquet, they will neutralize each other's odor and there will be no smell at all.

We're a quarterly magazine that publishes new science fiction and fantasy short stories. What's our definition of science fiction and fantasy? It's as broad as yours is, so if you think it's sf or f then we guarantee we won't reject it because it doesn't fit our definition. We're not looking for straight horror stories at this time. We will not be reading stories during August and September this year. Please refrain from sending stories during this time. What kind of stories do we want? Good ones, of course. We're interested in stories where violence is rejected as a means for solving problems. We're also interested in stories with philosophical, political, or religious themes. We're not interested in stories where the good guys kill the bad guys and then live happily ever after. We buy first North American serial rights, and currently pay authors 1 cent (Canadian) per word plus 2 copies of the magazine upon publication. Normally stories we accept are between 2000 and 10000 words, although we will consider shorter or longer works. As for the format, any readable format is fine. Send us your stories by mail. We do not accept email submissions of stories.
