Welcome back everyone! Hope you’ve enjoyed a great week. I have a front page up at my new writing site. Take some time to check it out. I’m still very busy putting together the eBooks and am pleased to say it’s making considerable progress. August 22, 1762 - Today Ann Franklin became the first female newspaper editor. She became the editor of "The Newport Mercury" in Newport, Rhode Island.

Write a quick paced interesting story. Subjects should include alien encounters-real or imagined, universal history, possible futures, out-of-body experiences, spiritual abilities and powers, interstellar technologies and anything that broadens the scope of man's thought processes. We like stories around 2000 to 5000 words. Submit as an attachment or within the email text. We prefer Microsoft word documents. We pay $50.00 within a month after publication.

We do not currently accept freelance work for our web site, therefore these guidelines apply to the print edition of YES Mag only. There is a focus on Canadian content throughout YES Mag—Canadian science and scientists are highlighted. The articles in YES Mag tend to be short. With only 32 pages four times per year, we try to pack as much information as we can into each issue. Sci and Tech Watch pieces generally run to 250 words while features run from about 800 to 1200 words. We can’t pay a lot right now, but the kids appreciate your efforts (and so do we). Articles and departmental contributions: $.15 (Canadian) per word upon publication for one time print rights - Photos, drawings, graphics: varies.

We seek only unpublished poems or translations of poems not already available in English. The magazine is copyrighted, with rights reverting to the poet on publication. Much as we appreciate the frustration of slow responses from editors, we consider it unethical for a poet to submit the same work simultaneously to more than one publisher. We receive as many as 20 envelopes of poetry a day. About 2% have some chance of ultimate acceptance; these we keep for up to four months, circulating them among the editors and continuing to winnow. At quarterly meetings of the editorial board we read the surviving poems aloud and put together an issue of the best. We prefer no particular forms or lengths or subjects. We are always watching for new poets, fresh insights, live language. The Chad Walsh Poetry Prize ($4000 in 2000) goes to the author of the poem or group of poems that the editors judge to be the strongest in each year.

The PEN/Faulkner Award is a national prize which honors the best published works of fiction by American citizens in a calendar year. Three judges are chosen annually by the Directors of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation to select five books from among the 200 to 300 works submitted. The winning writer receives $15,000 at the award ceremony held at the Folger Library in May; four other nominees receive $5,000 each. The judges generally make their decision about the five finalists in early to mid-March, at which time the names are announced. The "First among Equals" is announced to the press mid-April. These dates vary each year according to the schedule of judging. All five read from their work for approximately five minutes each at the award ceremony. The author must be an American citizen.

We publish a quarterly magazine with children's stories, artwork, and poems. In the last thirteen years, more than 2000 elementary, middle, and high school students from all over the country have seen their work published in Young Voices Magazine. Each published contributor is paid for their work. Young Voices is a not-for-profit organization that offers writing and art workshops as a way for young people to express themselves creatively. More than a thousand kids and teenagers have attended our workshops.

I was then a volunteer dog walker at the local Humane Society for 3 years . In 1999, with the help of LIN WELLFORD's great instructional books, I started painting on rocks.
