Welcome back everyone and new subscribers too! Summer’s almost over in this part of the world and the kids are back to school. Hope you enjoyed spectacular vacations and found time to hone your writing skills.

I’d like to thank all of you who’ve read and commented on my new short short story ‘Where the Heart Is’ at Authors Den. What an overwhelming, inspiring response! Thank you so much! This week I’m sharing some writing Web sites located in the UK, but they are open for submissions worldwide so please check them out. Are you tired of rejection slips? Do something creative with them! I read somewhere of one writer who wallpapered a room with them. *~:) Getting a rejection doesn’t necessarily mean your writing is bad. There are many reasons why publishers aren’t able to publish your writes. Always remember to follow your dream and persevere. You can only fail if you quit. Today could be the day you get accepted! Today in history:
August 29, 1991 - Today marked the end of the 75 years of control the Communist Party’s had over the Soviet Union.

Did You Know? One belief of ancient times was that on St. Valentine’s Day and Eve, a young girl would eventually marry the first eligible male she met on this day. If a girl was curious and brave enough, she could conjure up the appearance of her future spouse by going to a graveyard on St. Valentine’s Eve at midnight. She would then have to sing a prescribed chant and run around the church twelve times.
Did You Know? The state of Pennsylvania can lay claim to some dubious firsts. The first woman governor. The zipper. Toilet paper. And the autogiro, ancestor to the helicopter.
Did You Know? The Sequoias and Redwoods of the American West Coast are not the oldest living trees in the world. The honor belongs to the Macrozamia trees of Australia, which live 5,000 to 7,000 years and, some claim, may even reach 15,000 years.
Did You Know? Taiwan was known formerly as Formosa.
Did You Know? Over the many centuries of living in the Arctic, Eskimos' bodies have adapted to the cold. Eskimos tend to be short and squat, which brings their arms and legs closer to the heart, so there is less danger of freezing. Extra fat around the torso protects their internal organs from the cold. The metabolism of Eskimos is also set a little higher than other people. As a result, they burn their food faster to stay warm. Their veins and arteries are also arranged to carry more warming blood to their hands.

3. WEBSITES FOR WRITERS:

Northwords aims to publish the best of new fiction and poetry while retaining the perspective from the north. However, this does not mean it has a parochial point of view or restricted base for potential contributors. It is unusual for Northwords to publish single poems. It prefers to publish a few together to give readers a sense of the writer's scope and voice. When submitting, please send between five and twelve poems. Send no more than four short stories at a time, unless they are very short. Northwords rarely publishes fiction longer than 4,000 words. As with all literary magazines, it is best for writers to read at least one issue before submitting. And note that Northwords does not accept submissions by email. A small fee is paid to all contributors. Check Web site for address of Northwoods.

Crimewave publishes nothing but crime fiction -- no reviews, no interviews, no padding, just 100% pure crime fiction. Our stories cover the entire waterfront of the genre, from the misnamed cosy to the deceptively subtle hardboiled. We publish debut stories alongside the latest installments of famous series. We also encourage writers to cross genres. Submissions of short stories are welcome all year round. We are never closed to submissions. No length restriction. One story at a time, mailed flat, in standard MS format with adequate return postage. Manuscripts from overseas should be disposable and accompanied by two IRCs or simply an email address (this option is for overseas submissions only). Queries are welcome via email but unsolicited submissions are not - they will be deleted. New Authors should not submit novel manuscripts. Try us with something short first, until we get to know you better. We require creative fiction 2000 to 6000 words in length for our literary journal. All work submitted should be based on orthodox Biblical norms or traditions, but should portray spiritual truths in new, innovative or unique ways. The ultimate purpose of our publishing company is to glorify our Lord Jesus Christ and lead readers into a deeper or more meaningful relationship with Him; however, Authors must remember that we are in the entertainment business, not preaching from a pulpit. Payment is made upon publication at the rate of 1/2 cent per word. No literary genre is excluded from consideration by the editors. We have published metafiction, science fiction, humor, fantasy, magic realism, as well as stories of a contemporary or inspirational nature. We do not publish poetry; we do not publish stories that glorify violence or perversity; we do not publish Bible stories in modern or ancient garb.

Now over 10 million people have visited this site since May 29. I am an individual artist who did this presentation with the hopes of maybe 20 people seeing it, not millions.
