Children First
By Maria Cristina Azcona
Your dark brown eyes, dearest child
Are always blue like diaphanous sky
Are made of topaz, gold and fairy wings
And have the simplicity of spherical things
Child , your joyfulness, is our first command,
our thirst and our glory
There are many children who cannot talk to us
Because they are unborn, but also there and real.
There are many children who cannot play and smile to us
Because starvation, drugs ,corruption ,hate and war
mutilated their brains and entire life.
Before money, health and romance,
you are the first priority
Dearest creature who came to us, on Earth
From angels transparencies through air and breath
Your soul is clear as clear mountain streams
And Love is the origin of your childish dreams
Child, your future is in our hand
So, we need to understand
Your needs are first, although you don’t complain
You are not unable to express yourself.
This is us who can’t get what you may necessitate
And always adult world is leaving you at the end.
Which is your sea, which is your sand
Your bay, your universe, your better place to stand
There are many children who are far away from us
In other city, without bread, an awful panorama
They are awaiting for solidarity from other countries
But yet there is not a Global Law against their drama
Child, your future is in our hand
So, we need to understand
Which is your sea, which is your sand
Your bay, your universe, your better place to stand
Child , your joyfulness, is our first command,,
our thirst and our glory
Before money, health and romance,
you ought to be our first priority

Peace around

Autmn2005/Current/azcona.htm
I dream of a world without roars
from the deadly killing machine
I dream of lands far from the shadows
where rain is made of heartfelt ink
I wish to draw smiles on all faces
using rainy drops which are multicolored
to form a garden with all the races
where differences are never noticed
I think on so many babies
who have never learn to smile
Their happiness is frozen
because of hunger illness and war
I´ve learned to listen to a special sound
while moon gazes to the roaming sun
I´ve learned to discover Peace around
and also invite her to a morning dance
You need to help me in this endeavor
giving your hand to whom is at your side
Discovering Peace around your heart
to enlighten the darkness of this decadent life

PAZ ALREDEDOR
He aprendido a escuchar un sonido especial

A review on Adam Donaldson Powell´s poems
from his book Collected Poems and Stories
Collected Poems and Stories by Adam Donaldson Powell, Cyberwit.net, India, 2005 pp. 175, $15, 81-8253-028-8 For his Poetry Reading in Argentina (In Spanish by the author himself and translations mostly by Maria Cristina Azcona )
Powell is a multifaceted creator whose poems are enriched not only by his capability in Literary meanings, but also by his deep sensibility towards human problems, nowadays society illness, joined to his bright talent for visual arts. He has the privileged neuron that allows him to play with his own sense of aesthetics, as it was a children game. While reading his amusing poetry, we find ourselves observing reality from his point of view.
These poems, from his book “Collected Poems and Stories”, which he is presenting to Argentine public for first time, may be separated in two kinds or groups, to be analyzed and commented.
The First group is conformed by poems that are similar to a modern, abstract painting, Like he does in “Green” where a mystery hides under multiple images, colors and concepts. This mystery is revealed at the final verse.
The second group, which includes among others, The Devil, Before the death of my love, Imagine and The Prudent Cognoscente, presents us, at first sight, techniques coming from Short Story like the abrupt and unexpected ending full of an omnipresent irony.
In the second reading, both groups present always a philosophical content and customary social criticism which depth leads us to Philosophical thoughts about the meaning of existence
Powell’s work contains ironic humor, sharp criticism, the clear idea and the divertimento of a short story at the same time.
The poem manages, in its mischief, to capture grotesque of this Era, giving to our poetic palate a delicacy more than a simple esthetic pleasure.
The truth in an envelop of surprising originality: art, beauty that is not other thing that authentic poetry.
It remains me of Ezra Pound’s realistic style and, in Spain, Francisco de Quevedo´s conceptual poetry.
The most beautiful piece, to my understanding, is “The Devil” in which the poet speaks to us, readers, he orders us, he calls our attention, he prevents us of that devil that exists, that is so dangerous sand terrifying. The poet frightens us with the Devil playing “ To hide and to find” games, petrifying us with its threatening and unknown presence. Creates the climate of fear of a terror story.
In a magisterial synthesis, gives an impressive end when he finally finds that devil in ourselves, shocking us and forcing us to recognize the wickedness that lives and hides in our human heart. Here the poet creates a personage, the Devil, that no longer is the famous one but is a real, present phantom, humanized, possible and burning, like the fire of malice in daily life.
Originality is a constant in Powell’s poems, a surprising and multifaceted artist who amazes us with his music, his paintings, his poems, his humor and always with his genius .He communicates himself in so many ways and he revives in thousands of kaleidoscopic images, that finally he gives himself the final luxury to create a perfect and synthetic pearl of terror, humor, beauty, social critics, universality and creativity in pure state as he does magisterially in the DEVIL.

América no te reconozco
Verde
No sé
Dónde buscamos la alegría
Bolero Moderno

Mushroompicking in the Kingdom.
by ADAM DONALDSON POWELL
Norway, member of BILINGUAL MCA
Barefoot, I stumble through
The forest of the Kingdom
Without a hint of
Either understanding
Or danger.
I am on a treasure hunt,
And looking for the mushroom's
Hidden secrets -- much
As a naive child
In the age of fantasy.
Every now and then my
Beauty sleep is
Disturbed by nature's stillness,
Which brings forth the subconsciousness'
Agitating and enchanting
Images from places without
Time or name.
Behind a fern from
The era of dinosaurs, and out from
Under a moss-covered rock,
Peers the most beautiful mushroom I
Have ever seen,
With a broad red surface
Speckled with gold.
I stretch my arm out
Toward the precious find
And pause just
As I am about
To touch it.
The rock has begun to glow
Like an emerald:
First with the quiet
Intensity of
Red hot coal, and
Then with the overwhelming
Light of God's eternal love
And mercy,
Mirrored in a trillion smiles.
At that instant I rise
Out of my body, and
My chakras line up
Perfectly while
I look down at myself and
The totality of
Human existence from
Far above.
And in the perfect harmony
I re-experience life
As in the heavenly periods
In between earthly incarnations,
And all of my daily worries
And obstacles seem just as
Dreamlike and insignificant
As a midsummer's daydream.
I never fully return back
To the consciousness that
I once knew,
But retain a small
Portion of the glow that
Has now touched my heart
In such a wonderful way.
In my backpack I carry home
Not a single mushroom, but truly the
Most sought after treasure from
The forest of the Kingdom:
To be sure, a simple rock --
As a souvenir from
Life's journey of dreams.

Mientras me puedo ver a mí mismo
Verdaderamente,
el más preciado tesoro
del bosque del Reino.
Para expresarlo simplemente
Una simple roca, un souvenir
Del viaje de la vida
A la vida de los sueños
