I was riding from Fayetteville the other day and listening to an oldie but goodie “A Friend” by Aaron Hall and The Winans. And the lyrics just touched my heart so much and inspired the devotional for October. A Friend who sticks closer to us than any sibling. A Friend of yours and mine. A Friend who loves us no matter what mistakes we make or what situations we’re in. You could be down in the dumps and He’s there. He celebrates with you when you’re at the top of your game. The Psalmist said if I make my bed in hell, He’ll be there or if I’m soaring with the angels in the Heavens He’ll be there. You can depend on Him. He’s a Friend of mine and yours.

Got a lot on your mind, tell Him about all your troubles. He won’t tell a soul and is able to bear the tough stuff, the heavy things that no human can bear. He can. I think the Baptist hymn says what a privilege it is to take everything to Him in prayer. And when you can’t stop and pray you can whisper to him or even talk to him in your thoughts and He hears. Tell Him all you’re feeling even if you think you shouldn’t be feeling that way, He doesn’t care. Tell him about it. He’s listening. And just because He doesn’t answer when you think He should, believe me He has a time for all things to work in your behalf. He loves you too much to leave you alone. What a Friend He is.

Rich or poor. Homeless or living in a mansion or a house on a hill or with mom and dad. He’s your Friend. Employ of unemployed. Master degree or never finished high school or ever stepped inside a school. He is your Friend. Got it going on or can’t get it together, He’s your Friend through that too. I’ve never found anyone who loves me the way He does. Even with all my hang-ups and shortcomings, the Man still loves me endlessly. I can depend on His love. What a blessing.

Never think you’re ever alone and I know in this world with all it’s problems, troubles, situations, and obligations, you can easily forget that you can lean on God. But remember while you’re in the midst of whatever He’s just your Friend. His love is true and He’ll never stop loving you no matter what. Apostle Paul said nothing can separate you from the love of God. There is no way you’ll ever be alone. Let me leave you with this:

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer:
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus Knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
