Thanks! Newsletter Dated: 3/8/2002 12:35:58 AMSubject: March Update Stan Turner Mystery Contest: Jesse Ramirez from Boston was the lucky winner of the Stan Turner Character Contest, so he will find himself as a character in Cash Call when it comes out this summer. You’ll have to read the book to see what kind of sinister character he ends up being.
Fan Editors needed: Since it's a well known fact that I’m a lousy proof reader, I've had a few fan editors read galleys of my books to help spot typos or other problems before the novels go to press. It’s a non-paying job except participants get free books for their trouble. They can also brag that they are one of my editors. If you are interested email me and I’ll get a galley out to you. Thanks to Ronda Harmon and Vicki Krantz who took the first crack at Cash Call. They did a great job and were a big help.
Audio CD Winner: Congratulations also to Stormin Berl of Weatherford, TX who won an Audio CD of Trouble In Trinidad last Monday night at the literary event at Weatherford College.
Upcoming Events: Next Wednesday I’ll be a guest on CBS Channel 6 in Tulsa on the noon news. I’ll be back there on the weekend for some signings at Waldenbooks and Barnes & Noble.
Announcements: Death Pact will be coming out in paperback in a few months. It will have a new cover and will sell for $7.95. Coincidentally a nice review out of Florida came to my attention this week. Here is it in case you’re interested.
Death Pact a romantic mystery by William Manchee. Move over Grisham As John Grisham has climbed higher on his political soapbox with each new book, it is only a matter of time before another writer comes along to take his place on the best-seller lists. That writer may be William Manchee, author of "Death Pact," a story that involves a lawyer, a large trust fund and its 17-year-old beneficiary, and the complications that can arise when the 17-year-old sets out to compromise the young attorney but then falls in love with him. Add the murder of the young girl's relative, cast blame hither and yon, sprinkle with a suicide pact, and you have a real page-turner. "Death Pact," a Top Publications hardcover edition, 277 pages, ISBN: 0-9666366-3-5, $19.95. The book is available on the Web at amazon.com and others. By Kim Cool (1/30/2002) Venice Gondolier
At the end of the month I’ll be in Jackson, MS. Then it's on to St. Louis, MO in April and we’ve just finalized arrangements to go to Book Expo in New York City May 2-5th
Recently I've taken a crack at some poetry. I don't claim to be a poet yet, but here's one you might find interesting.
Plastic They came from everywhere Over here and over there The mail, the phone the mall Unsolicited, one and all Get them one, two or ten Don’t wait—pick up the pen
It’s a simply wonderful game All you do is sign your name Now jump for joy, and yell, hooray! Cause baby they’re on their way Dillards, Penneys to name a few Visa, Mastercard and Amex Blue
You can live the American dream Stand up now and let out a scream Buy it now, no money down You’ve got credit all over town Sit back and watch your dreams come true Don’t worry only pennies due
For Moses it was manna from the Lord No need to sit around the house so bored Now its silver, gold and platinum too Macy’s, Sears to name just two Cars, clothes, a ten day cruise Gambling, clubs and lots of booze
You’ve got it all and then some more Until the bills flood in the door It cannot be, I didn’t spend that much Just a few odds and ends and such Eighteen, Twenty, Twenty-four Interest, interest, bills galore
Oh my God, it’s all a scam To steal my life, I’m in a jam Collectors call day and night, My balances are out of sight I can’t sleep or think Go to work, eat or drink
My lover scorns me, yells and screams God, what happened to my dreams? Letters come demanding blood, Tears from my face do flood My lovers’s gone, couldn’t take the heat I’m hear alone, tired and beat
Is all that’s left bankruptcy? What was my sin? Idolatry I see it now, clear as glass I fell in love with cold, hard cash Visa, Mastercard, Amex Blue Lucifer got his due Until next month, take care.
William Manchee
