Welcome New Subscribers!

I’m glad you’ve all signed up for this crazy ride and have decided you want to give my stories a try.

If djinns, ghosts, succubi or other mythological beings that go bump in the night are your jam, then you've come to the right place! If supernatural stories about psychics, reincarnation, time travel and wiccans arouse your curiosity (among other things 😉) then you’ve come to the right place.

Did I also mention spicy, sensual, erotic romance? Well, those are in my catalogue too. Just know, though my stories can be dark, and I take my characters through various trials and tribulations, they all get an HEA at the end. Always. Unless it’s my horror stories. For those, enter at your own risk 😂

The stories you will find in my catalogue include all of the above paranormal elements and beings and more. The characters are everyday people just like you and me, trying to survive and find love in a crazy mixed-up world. Okay, most of them might have a few gifts here and there that the rest of us don't, but otherwise, they are just like you and me, just a little larger than life😃

I believe I have a little something that all romance readers can appreciate. So sit back, enjoy the trip and stay abreast of what’s coming next!

======================================================
Welcome back to this issue of The G-Spot!

Hope summer was as great for you as it was for me and that you all enjoyed a safe and exciting Labor Day weekend .

Me, I had a pretty good summer capped off by a Labor Day barbecue and a couple of amusement park trips (Great Adventures 8/2/08 and Dorney Park 8/9/08) thrown in for good measure. Did the usual there—lots of walking, laughing and screaming (especially on the rollercoasters…Voodoo at Dorney Park was my favorite!)

MOVIES:

After THE DARK KNIGHT, there really wasn’t much else released that compelled me to go to the movies or that knocked my socks off except for the recently THE FAMILY THAT PREYS (*see review below).
On cable I caught some enjoyable flicks that I had missed during their original theatrical releases:

DADDY’S LITTLE GIRLS: A Tyler Perry production, this movie features a blue-collar, struggling mechanic (THE WIRE’S Idris Elba) who falls for Gabrielle Union’s ambitious, successful but stuck-up lawyer he hires to help him in a custody battle against his wife for his abused but precocious three daughters. This one had the trademark Tyler Perry humor, drama and solid performances to round out an enjoyable movie. This was a nice change of pace from the melodramatic THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE (see below) that I watched right
before it during a marathon movie night.

DEATH SENTENCE: Starring Kevin Bacon and Kelly Preston, this one is a DEATH WISH for the millennium, but more focused, the plot involving a businessman who becomes a vigilante after his son is murdered in what is initially thought to be a gas station robbery, but turns out to be a gang initiation. Solid plot, good action and ironic twists make this one an entertaining one to watch, if also tragically sad.

ENCHANTED: This one was too cute to be believed. I can see why it did so well in the theaters. Typical evil stepmother tries to get the innocent and beautiful potential daughter-in-law out of the way of her stepson the prince but with a few modern-day twists and the prerequisite cute and cuddly talking animal friends who save the day. I found myself laughing out loud at several parts and the performances were all on point (James Marsden was hilarious, in addition to being a really good singer. But then he did give a pretty credible and convincing performance as Corny Collins in HAIRSPRAY. He’s come a long way from BAD BEHAVIOR and GOSSIP .).

GONE BABY GONE: I’ve always liked Casey Affleck and thought he was a somewhat underrated actor. In the last few years, however, he’s really come into his own, and in this movie, he holds his own in scenes opposite the likes of Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Madigan. The movie—involving the abduction of a little girl in Boston and the retrieval efforts of the police and Casey’s private detective hired by the little girl’s aunt and husband—is well-directed by Casey’s big brother Ben and excellently acted. There’s a real twist at the end that left my mouth gaping. This one I highly recommend.

INVASION: Yet another remake of THE BODY SNATCHERS, this one featuring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. Kidman is a psychiatrist on the run from the “infected”, trying to stay awake and protect her young son, who is immune from the “invasion” (disease). Craig is a scientist and wannabe boyfriend who helps her figure out why her son and a select few others have not fallen prey to the infection. A few twists and turns and an ironically upbeat ending make this another solid, entertaining movie to watch.

JOSHUA: I’d heard about this little ditty a while back
when it was first limitedly released, one of those off the radar movies and you can see why. It’s very quiet, dark and insidious. The ending is subtle and sneaks up on you, just like the title character, definitely leaves you thinking. Overall, it was a good movie. Think THE OMEN without all the religion. What an evil little boy!

NEO NED: This quirky and inspired romance starred a fav actor of mine in Jeremy Renner (it’s something in his big soulful eyes) and Gabrielle Union. A Tribeca Film Festival release back in 2005 it’s the story of a neo-nazi patient in a psych hospital (Renner) who falls for a young black single mother (Union) who’s channeling Adolf Hitler. There are a lot of familiar faces throughout and good solid supporting and lead performances.

SHOOT ‘EM UP: I love Clive Owens. This is a departure from some of his more serious and heavy roles (like CHILDREN OF MEN), just a pure action and adrenaline rush from beginning to end. The dialogue is witty, sarcastic and fresh, the action is imaginative, at times unbelievable, but always entertaining. There’s definitely something for everyone in this—humor, romance, action, adventure, not to mention Clive is real lethal with a carrot stick. The plot is interesting if not terribly creative concerning a conspiracy involving the harvesting of bone marrow and corrupt politicians. The performances are appropriately off-beat (Giamanti’s villain steals the show!). Throw in a madam with a heart and a tragic, sad history of loss with Clive’s mysterious Alpha hero with same, and you’ve got a great hour-and-half of escapism, a real popcorn movie.

*THE FAMILY THAT PREYS: This is another Tyler Perry production that focuses on family and family values but with Tyler’s special brand of drama and humor. Two families are featured here, one led by Alice Pratt (Alfre Woodard). Alice is religious and working class and she has two daughters who never got along from childhood and who have grown even farther apart in ideals and behavior as they’ve become adults. One daughter is down-to-earth Pam, the other stuck-up Andrea. Andrea is living in the past and letting it rule how she lives her life, running over people and hurting the ones she loves to get ahead. The other family is the well-to-do Cartwrights led by the strong but sensitive matriarch Charlotte (Kathy Bates). Her son, William is cheating on his wife Jillian with Andrea, and much like his paramour, doesn’t care who he hurts if he can get what he wants. Amidst all the family drama and dirty business dealings, Charlotte and Alice go on a cross-country road trip, revitalizing their more than 30-year friendship before they return just in time to see their families on the verge of personal and professional collapse. The plot is nothing that hasn’t been done a hundred times before in film and literature, especially on soaps (can you say DYNASTY and DALLAS?), but what separates all the betrayal, greed, lust and backstabbing is Tyler’s voice and direction (he’s not a bad actor either), and the stand-out performances. Of particular note is Sanaa Lathan’s Andrea. Playing against type, she really sunk her teeth into her role as a conniving, heartless home wrecker. Of note also are Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard’s performances, both Oscar worthy in my opinion. Overall, this was an entertaining and enjoyable film. Like life the story had its ups and downs, lots of unexpected twists and turns, tragedies, triumphs, rebirths, joy and redemption.

THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE: Starring the very talented and versatile Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro, this was a real tear jerker. I watched this during one emotional weekend (had finished a very poignant and emotional book earlier the same day, see details in my Recommended Reads section) and was blown away by the performances and story. Recently widowed Audrey (Berry) invites her late husband’s best friend Jerry (Del Toro) to live in her garage. Jerry is a former lawyer turned heroine addict and Audrey’s husband (David Duchovny) was the only person in the world who never gave up on him. There is a lot of tension between Audrey and Jerry, a love-hate, push-pull relationship. Audrey resents the relationship Jerry had with her husband and resents that it was her husband who died and not Jerry. The characters deal with a lot of complex emotional issues and go through their ups and downs on their way through the healing process and redemption. Like I said—very emotional, but I liked it.

On the writing front:

Bouncer’s Folly is now available at Fictionwise! To purchase or read excerpts, visit here: http://fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook69347.htm

Gray Badge of Trust won the best book of the week poll at Whipped Cream (the week of 8/25/08)!! http://www.longandshortreviews.com/WC/0808/GrayBadgeOfTrust-GM.htm

BRUISED BUT NOT BROKEN is moving along nicely (I’m about 64,000+ words in). I recently signed the contract for it with Siren and it is tentatively scheduled for release under Siren’s new imprint, Ménage Amour http://www.menageamour.com April 2009! I’m very excited and already thinking of other stories I can write with a ménage theme. I’m thinking of moving away from paranormal elements. Not sure yet if the next one will be M/M/F or M/F/M. We’ll see…

SIREN PUBLISHING introduced its newest line, the Ménage Amour collection, September 5, 2008. Beginning September 15, 2008 a new ménage will be released every Monday! Visit here http://www.sirenpublishing.com/inthenews to read more details of this exciting, latest endeavor.

Finally, I discovered this totally by accident but CARAMEL FLAVA 2 looks like a go for June 2009! I did a search of the title just for the heck of it and found a link for it to Amazon.com which took me to the book’s (pre-order) page. The publisher and book information is all there and it has assigned ISBN numbers, so it looks pretty official. I’m looking forward to, at long last, seeing my erotic short story LEAP OF FAITH in print in this anthology next summer. Keeping my fingers crossed. Will keep you all posted if dates change.

As always, hope you enjoy this issue of The G-Spot!

AN INTERVIEW WITH ZACK BENJAMIN FROM “ZACK AND THE DARK SHAFT: ZARA’S BOIS 1”:
This is the first time I’ve done anything like this (not counting the creation process when I was actually writing the book) and interviewed one of my characters for a blog. It was fun opening up the story again to re-examine aspects that could be pulled out for an interview session. Zack was, for the most part, a cooperative subject, but he’s still making some major adjustments (as you’ll see from the interview) as regarding his sister’s new life. Check out the interview at Alex Beecroft’s blog In Their Own Words here: http://alexbeecroft.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/zack-benjamin-from-%E2%80%9Czack-and-the-dark-shaft-zara%E2%80%99s-bois-1%E2%80%9D/

WHAT I'M READING/RECOMMENDED READS: Check out my ratings and/or full reviews for the following books below or at my shelf http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10 unless otherwise indicated (i.e., Paranormal Romance Reviews, etc.):

The last couple of months I’ve returned to my contemporary romance roots (not that I’ve abandoned paranormal, vamps and other shapeshifters, no way!). But I have gone on a little spree considering, especially with one particular author—Susan Andersen. After reading SKINTIGHT and Susan Donovan after reading KEPT WOMAN. I went out and purchased the several books by both Andersen and Donovan that I’m really looking forward to sinking my teeth into. Also, I’ve found myself reading more interracial romances, something I’ve always loved but have only recently picked back up. In the meantime, here’s what I’ve been up to so far:

ACHERON by Sherrilyn Kenyon: The long awaited Dark Hunter book! I finished this 700+-page tome in about a week (the bulk of it during a weekend when I stayed up until midnight on Sunday before work because I just couldn’t put it down). Well worth the wait (and sleepless night ). Check out my review http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE by J.J. Murray: Murray’s characters are always authentic and charmingly flawed and his humor laugh-out-loud. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

CHOICES by Tammy Williamson (new-to-me author): Refreshingly innocent and sweet story and characters. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

CLOSER TO FINE by Meri Weiss (new-to-me author): Another author/book I found through Good Reads’ friendship. An emotional and stunning debut! http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

COWBOY GAMES by Wendi Darlin (new-to-me author): I had the good fortune of winning a $10.00 certificate in a random drawing at a Siren Chat. One of the books I purchased was Cowboy Games by Wendi Darlin. I have to say it was worth every penny and more!

Rebecca Ryder is a thirty-two-year-old widow who lost her young husband Todd suddenly to an aneurism. A year later she finds herself at the Fantasy Ranch wanting to live out her fantasy of falling in love with a cowboy—the last fantasy Todd promised to live out with her the morning he went off to work and never returned.

At the Fantasy Ranch the cowboys are sexy as sin, rough and ready and know how to treat a woman to make her fall in love with them. Gavin Carter is one such cowboy and part owner of the ranch with his older brother Garrett. He is so convincing and good at his job, in fact that Rebecca has a hard time knowing where the game ends and reality begins. But Rebecca is not the only one who’s been thrown for a loop at the ranch, because Gavin is just as confused and infatuated with Rebecca as she is with him. Unfortunately, a real love match between this lovelorn pair is forbidden for numerous reasons, the main one being the no-fraternizing-outside-of-the-bounds-of-the-one-week-fantasy-between-the customer-and-her-cowboy rule. How Gavin and Rebecca get around this rule is a compelling and tantalizing tightrope walk that Darlin performs with creative and well-written narrative and sensual love scenes.

Gavin and Garrett have enough on their plate staving off the rumors that they are running nothing more than a brothel and the attentions of the local sheriff following up on those rumors without the complication of Gavin falling in love with his charge. There’s also a cruel and ambitious police officer who wants to make detective and blackmails his aunt, a civilian, into visiting the ranch in an undercover sting operation.

I really enjoyed this book! The dialogue was fresh, natural and witty, the characters were engaging and true-to-life and the story was fast-paced with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader speeding through the pages to discover what new personal conflicts and business-related complications with which Gavin, Rebecca and Garrett had to deal. The sex scenes are sizzling, vividly realized and aroused me not only on a physical level but an emotional one.

Gavin and Rebecca are two sensitively and intelligently portrayed individuals who have been through a lot of pain in their past lives and are trying to get over it together. I cared about them and their successes and failures kept me on a poignant rollercoaster until the final page was scrolled through, the games ended and Gavin and Rebecca got to live out their romantic fantasies in real life and reach their happily ever after. This wonderful read is available from http://www.sirenpublishing.com

DIFFERENT IS ALL THE SAME by Kamryn Donavan: Didn’t enjoy this as much as Donovan’s first book, but it was okay. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

GIDEON by Jacquelyn Frank: This one really disappointed me, I’m sorry to say, but you might feel differently. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

JACOB by Jacquelyn Frank (new-to-me author): Okay, so it took me two months (which isn’t really that bad when I’m reading 3-4 other books at the same time) but I FINALLY finished it! The length of time it took to read this first book in Frank’s Nightwalkers series had not as much to do with the quality of the read as it did with my laziness (it was my stationary bike book, and I usually only read it when I was being consistent with my workouts ). http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

LOVER ENSHRINED by J.R. Ward: Hey, you already know the drill with this series, but in case you don’t—The Black Dagger Brotherhood ROCKS! I LOVE this series. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

MY BOOTY NOVEL by Bill Campbell (new-to-me author): Found this book/author through Good Reads’ friendship. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

SUPERB AND SEXY by Jill Shalvis: Didn’t enjoy this as much as the other books in the series, but it was okay. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

SKINTIGHT by Susan Andersen (new-to-me author): http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

WHISKEY ROAD by Karen Siplin (new-to-me author): Edgy and original “love story” rather than a “romance”. The difference is the absence of a HEA. The Happy For Now ending works for this book and the characters however. http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10

Currently Reading: BADDEST BAD BOYS (print anthology, various authors—Shannon McKenna, et. al.); BLUE RUIN: CHAINS OF LOVE by Katrina Strauss; HEART OF THE DRUAE by Dana Lyons; JUST FOR KICKS by Susan Andersen

NEW REVIEWS (EXCERPTS):

BOUNCER’S FOLLY:

“Bouncers Folly is written in a very visual, readable, yet highly literary style. Gracie C. McKeever blends her hot man on man action with a spiritual tale of love's redemption. Having not read the first two books, it never felt like this was a problem. The author infuses enough information about Zara to make this story flow naturally as a stand-alone title, yet made this reviewer want to run out and buy the first two books in the series. A skillful, masterful tale told by an author with genuine talent and a compelling taste for the macabre.” 5 Delightful Divas, AJ Llewellyn for Dark Diva Reviews. To read the complete review, visit here: http://darkdivareviews.webs.com/glbt.htm

“The third installment in the Zara’s Bois series, Bouncer’s Folly is a wonderful addition and continues the growth of Zara and the people surrounding her... I enjoyed the transition from Zara the woman to Zara the man which is an interesting journey and well written. Fans of M/M and BDSM eroticism will be intrigued by this tale and Zara’s new lease on life.” 4 Headstones, Sarai for Bitten by Books. To read the full review, visit here: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=706

ETERNAL DESIGNS:

“McKeever delivers a powerhouse novel of desire, deceit and murder. The characters leap off the page to tell an intricate story of love that supersedes death. The suspense is taut and becomes more tightly drawn as suspects are eliminated.” 4 ½ Stars, reviewed by Donna M. Brown for Romantic Times Book Reviews

GRAY BADGE OF TRUST:

“Miss McKeever manages to pull off the dominant and submissive roles in a flawless and believable manner, while still revealing the underbelly of Tally and Luke’s connected histories. I liked the fact that McKeever wrote the story in the point of view of the male, allowing us to see the battle of wills raging within him. The dynamics were great, the sex was sizzling, and the writing was crisp and refreshing. What’s not to like? My only complaint was that it wasn’t longer, but then that’s what the scroll bar is for: going back to the beginning.” 4 Delightful Divas from Dark Diva Reviews. To read the complete review, visit here: http://darkdivareviews.webs.com/bsdm.htm

“Gracie McKeever draws the reader immediately into the escalating conflict and sexual tension between moody Detective Luke Gamble who meets his match in sultry Tally Calvalieri. You can’t help but feel up close and personal to the motivations of these two who battle from opposites sides of an investigation only to butt more than heads in this spicy encounter. The grit and intensity of these characters leave a lasting impression as well the need for a cold shower.
All in all an intense read wrapped around well-fleshed characters—in more ways than one—encased in a well-written plot.” 4 Cherries, Reviewed by Forsythia for Whipped Cream. To read the full review, visit here: http://www.longandshortreviews.com/WC/0808/GrayBadgeOfTrust-GM.htm

INGENUE’S CHOICE:

“All of the characters in Ingenue’s Choice are likable and realistically depicted. Keir and Patryck really come alive, due to the author’s skill at creating believable dialogue and interaction between them. The romantic tension between the two men is instantaneous, and builds to steaming and yet tender interactions. I rooted for them from the beginning. I also especially like the author’s warm and casual narrative style. The prose has a smooth and conversational feeling to it. It’s interesting to see, from Zara’s perspective, traits in these men that each overlooks in himself. They have the potential to enrich each other’s lives and just need a bit of help to let go of their baggage and move forward. In spite of the many paranormal elements in the book, the contemporary setting and the people inhabiting it are so well written that the reader won’t doubt anything that occurs. The appearance of the ghosts and angels is so seamless that the reader is never distracted from the main storyline: the romance between Keir and Patryck.” 4 Divas, Dark Diva Reviews. To read the full review, visit here: http://darkdivareviews.webs.com/glbt.htm

“Gracie McKeever combines old characters and settings with new and draws the reader ever closer to the newly maturing character of Zara who is becoming more likable by the day. The second installment in the Zara’s Bois series, Ingenue’s Choice is better formed than the first in the series and includes more dialogue with the two angels that started it all, Micah and Jamaereh. Fans of M/M and BDSM will appreciate the eroticism of this tale and the growth of the characters as they begin to heal old hurts.” 4 Headstones, Sarai for Bitten by Books. To read the full review, visit here: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=652

“The developing romance between Patryk and Keir is very sweet and was a pleasure to read about. The sex in this book is scorching hot and there is some mild BDSM, too.

Gracie McKeever does a great job at creating a lively and sometimes very funny story, while depicting her characters in a very believable way. Ingenue's Choice is a very enjoyable paranormal story and I'm off now to read the third book in the series, Bouncer's Folly.” 4 Roses, Reviewd by Christian Otto for the REC. NINE INCHES OF SNOW AND THE EBONY PRINCESS:

“This is the first work I’ve read by Gracie McKeever, and I enjoyed it a great deal. The storyline, which draws elements from different well-known fairytales, is tight and well written, and the characters are all realistic and well-developed. Heroine Aziza Lopez is the right combination of uncertain and independent. Because she and hunky hero David Healey get to meet before he ends up a comatose patient on her nursing ward, we also get to see her fiery side, especially after she witnesses his shape-shifting. David is flawed but completely likable, the nice guy driven by need who still tries to do the right thing. I wasn’t expecting the paranormal twist to this story, when David turns to a wolf at the moment his life is put in danger, but it fits right into the plot. I don’t normally read a lot of paranormal, but I thought David’s shifting between worlds was well done and easy to follow.” 4 Cherries, Reviewed by Dandelion for Whipped Cream. RAPTURE 1:

“The Prosecutor’s Paramour is a superb prequel to Ms. Santiago’s The Wives’ Tales series. Readers will be sucked into a futuristic world where women are relegated to the role of second-class citizens. Evie proves herself a worthy adversary by keeping Zachary on his toes. Zachary’s many secrets are revealed to Evie in unexpected ways. I have a whole new appreciation for Ms. Santiago’s talent as she constantly kept this reader guessing, even though I knew the ultimate outcome!

Ms. McKeever is a new author to me and subsequently I’ve never read any of the previous installments of her Sisters of Emsharra series. I found this novella to be the hardest one to enjoy, struggling to juggle the back-story with the main and keeping the secondary characters straight in my mind. I found Michael’s conflict to be one that tore at my heart. I empathized with how he could feel anything positive, let alone love, for Xevera after his mother suffered so cruelly at the hands of one of her people. I admired Xevera’s spunk as she bravely faced all of Michael’s hatred.

Ms. Ashbury begins her new trilogy The Song of the Sirens with The Enchantress. Twyla and Nicholas are a great team, loving and working together. Twyla gives her complete trust to Nicholas, thinking he might be the perfect man for her. Nicholas reworks his initial perception about Twyla as he learns more about this amazing woman. I was intrigued with the sirens and wished more background had been incorporated into this story. Knowing Ms. Ashbury, the second and third installments of this promising series will give us this and more!

A Devil’s Bargain was an utter delight to read! Isabelle is everything Devon wishes he could have, but knows is beyond reach. Ms. Wildes turns up the sexual heat as Devon introduces the virginal Isabelle to all the delights of the flesh. Isabelle not only stirs Devon’s libido, but through her wonderful spirit, encourages him to care again. A Devil’s Bargain is one historical that I’ll repeatedly turn to to warm up a cold winter’s night!” To read the complete review visit here: http://www.twolipsreviews.com/content/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3394&Itemid=36

THE WOLF IN THE MANSION:

“McKeever writes short books that pack a punch in the beginning and do not stop squeezing your central nervous system like a vice grip until you’ve reached the last page . McKeever throws intriguing ingredients of Shakespeare, soap opera and genuine, old fashioned romance into every single page, blending the mixture into a satisfying meal.

She also has a welcome taste for explosive sex scenes that keep this a page turner… Gracie C. McKeever has produced another fine, evocative, erotic romantic thriller.” 4 Delightful Divas by A.J. THIS ISSUE’S NOVEL EXCERPT:

THE DANCE
Contemporary Romance
Siren Publishing

Excerpt from Chapter 2 (read all of Chapter 1 on my website)

Rico leaned one elbow on the counter and nursed his beer. The place was packed with locals dressed in jeans and t-shirts and tourists in garish colors and loafers. Glasses clinked together as a rotund waitress balanced a tray of drinks and sidestepped near disaster as someone backed into her path. He turned sideways on the bar stool and watched Mariah at a table across the room. She turned to talk at one of her friends, giving him a good view of her profile.
Dios, she was stunning with that little upturned nose and high delicate cheekbones. Her hair shone like polished mahogany, cascading over her shoulders and down her back. He'd be having fantasies tonight about that luxurious mane draped across his bare chest. And those eyes, those meadow-green eyes—he wanted to lie down naked in that meadow and let his skin absorb her warmth. And that mouth. It tempted and tormented a man to kiss it thoroughly or engage it in a few other lascivious activities fabricated by his sex-starved mind.
Her flowered sundress stopped at mid-thigh to give him a good view of her delectable legs. He visualized those long legs of hers wrapped around his waist, urging him to completion. The dress dipped modestly low in front and temptingly low in back. He suspected it sported a designer label judging by the quality. He bet it clung to her cute little bottom when she stood up. Stand up for me, baby.
Her angel’s face and vixen’s body made for one attractive package. It'd been a long time since a woman had him so hot and horny. It felt good, really good. Apathy, even toward sex, had dominated his personal life in the past couple years. He’d focused on his work to the exclusion of everything else, making his import business the best in the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, his family spent his money as fast as he could make it. Putting a lid on that depressing thought, he centered his attention on her.
When he'd walked into the bar a few minutes ago, he couldn’t believe his good luck. Of course, finding her wasn’t completely a matter of chance. There were only a few bars in the small town of Eastsound. Plus, the pickup truck parked at her house earlier today appeared to be the same one parked down the block from this restaurant.
She didn’t have a clue that he sat several feet from her, but she would soon. A guy couldn’t hurry a woman like that. In a moment, Phase One of his carefully planned seduction would commence, and God help them both.
Hell, he hadn’t had this much fun in years.

* * * *

Mariah threw back her head and laughed. She took another sip of her sangria and pretended to listen to Bob tell a humorous story about some tourists he’d taken out in his charter boat last week.
The five friends met a couple times a month in the small bar in the island’s only Mexican restaurant. The place smelled like stale beer and cigarettes. The décor consisted of tacky sombreros and sarapes in garish colors stapled to a fake stucco wall. Scratchy speakers played what sounded like Mexican polka music. Mariah’s feet stuck to the brown tile floor and her arms stuck to the table. She loved the place. Besides, on the island a girl didn’t have too many choices when it came to drinking establishments.
Mariah tried to concentrate on the conversation being volleyed around the table, but her mind kept drifting to the Latin hunk with the mocha eyes. She sighed as she pulled herself back to reality one more time. What was that they were saying? She hadn’t caught a word of it. Hopefully, no one would ask her a question.
As always, she was the odd person in a group of couples. Someday, she’d find some poor guy to drag along if she had to pay him just so they wouldn’t pity her for being alone or try to find her a man. She’d been half-tempted to invite Rodrigo to join her tonight. She could just imagine the looks on her friends’ faces if she showed up with her sexy neighbor in tow.
Mariah plucked a choice nacho chip dripping with cheese from the plate and popped it into her mouth. Bob had a tendency to go on and on. She stifled a yawn and finished off her sangria, doing her best to look interested.
“Señorita?” The waiter bent down low to be heard over the din in the bar.
“Yes?” Mariah watched as the waiter placed another glass of sangria in front of her. “Excuse me, I didn’t order this,” she said in confusion.
“Sí, it is compliments of the man sitting at the bar.” The harried waiter didn’t wait for a response as he moved to the next table.
Mariah turned to scan the bar. Rodrigo was perched on a tall barstool. His long legs were wrapped around the stool and the heels of his scuffed boots were hooked on the footrest. He’d abandoned his T-shirt in favor of a well-worn, white cotton shirt with short sleeves. He wore it open at the throat and unbuttoned several buttons to reveal his tanned chest and crisp, dark chest hair. His black jeans fit him like a second skin. To her abject horror, a Yankees baseball cap covered his unruly hair. Didn’t the man realize he was deep in Mariners’ territory and Yankee might as well be a four-letter word?
Their eyes connected, causing a small internal tremor in her body that topped the Rodrigo scale at about 7.0. She smiled at her stupid pun and then realized he interpreted her smile as an invitation. He raised his index finger to his temple in a mock salute.
With a mixture of dread and anticipation, she watched as he tossed cash on the counter to pay for his drinks. He and his beer headed for her table. Mariah snapped her head forward and focused on her friends. Maybe if she ignored him, he’d keep walking. She wasn’t prepared for this. The last thing she wanted was for her friends to meet him. They’d read more into it than there was and tease her without mercy. Not to mention the embarrassing things they’d say to him given half the chance. He’d find out she rarely dated, and she'd look desperate for male attention. She didn’t want Rodrigo to think that of her, even if it was true.
Without turning around, she felt his presence behind her. His mouth grazed the hair by her ear. She should have known the brash man wasn’t that easily discouraged.
“So,” he whispered in his deep, sexy voice, “fate seems to find ways to bring us together.”
“Something tells me that fate had nothing to do with it.” She looked over her shoulder at him. He was so close, his lips brushed her cheek. Embarrassed by his boldness, she leaned away from him. He leaned closer.
He grinned, his olive complexion contrasted by perfect white teeth. “Did you miss me?”
She ignored his remark. “Hello, Rodrigo.”
Her friends grew silent. Four pairs of eyes zeroed in on the two of them.
Rodrigo didn’t have a shy bone in his body. He smiled engagingly and introduced himself. Shaking hands with the men, he graced the women with his irresistible presence. Nancy and Linda melted on the spot, adding two more to his growing list of admirers, or so it seemed.
“Are you a friend of Mariah’s?” Nancy asked with a quick glance in Mariah’s direction. Mariah frowned. If her friend didn't quit slobbering soon, there'd be a puddle on the table.
“We’re neighbors. I’m staying at Max Delgado’s place for a month. Mariah and I are acquainted.”
Four pairs of eyebrows crept up to their hairlines.
“Really? Join us,” Carl suggested, ever the helpful, friendly guy. Mariah shot daggers at both men.
Rodrigo didn’t wait for a second invitation. He stole a chair from an adjacent table. Her traitorous friends shifted to make room for him next to her. She realized with a sinking heart that she couldn’t depend on them to rescue her. Instead, they threw her to the wolf. That scruffy, Latin wolf happily slid his chair next to hers until their thighs touched. As if that wasn’t enough, he took her hand and kissed each finger with care then turned it over to kiss her palm. Nancy gasped and dropped her fork. Linda missed her mouth, and wine dribbled down her chin, unnoticed.
“Bella, it’s been too long. About four hours?” He looked at each of her friends to gauge their reactions, appearing to be insufferably pleased with himself.
Mariah considered crawling under the table. She’d never hear the end of this. Her face burned with a heat caused by more than embarrassment. No matter how infuriating this man could be, her body seemed to have the hots for him.
Using his charisma and innate charm, Rodrigo had her friends eating out of his hand in five minutes. He engaged them in conversation about the islands and their lives yet gave very little of himself away. He deftly dodged probing questions about his personal and professional life with an ease born of experience. His polished demeanor seemed inconsistent with his unkempt appearance.
Who was this man with the smoothness of a politician, face of a movie star, and clothes of a bum?

THIS ISSUE’S AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: JAMI DAVENPORT

BIO: Jami Davenport had dabbled in writing since she learned the alphabet. An advocate of happy endings, Jami writes sexy romance, sizzling suspense, and equestrian fiction. Jami lives on a small farm near Puget Sound with her husband, a former Green Beret turned plumber, a chocolate Lab with a tennis ball fetish, a prince disguised as an orange tabby cat, and an opinionated Hanoverian mare.

In her spare time, Jami rides dressage and grows roses. An avid boater, Jami has spent countless hours in the San Juan Islands, the setting for her first two books, and in her opinion, the most beautiful place on earth.

THE INTERVIEW

GRACIE: I’m excited to have you here at The G-Spot, Jami! Please tell us a little about yourself and how and when you got into writing?

JAMI: I have literally been writing since I knew the alphabet. I still have a book in the trunk that I wrote when I was around six about a horse, called Wildfire, and illustrated by me. While I’ve written for fun off and on for years, it wasn’t until I posted a chapter on a fan fic site, that I let anyone else read anything I wrote. From there, I finished that book and was convinced by my readers to pursue writing on a more serious basis.

GRACIE: Is there any one thing or person in your life that inspired your writing? Any one thing or person that influenced the genre you write in?

JAMI: I’d have to say that Danielle Steele’s The Promise was the book that turned me onto romance so many years ago. Also, my penchant for happy endings. I don’t watch movies or read books with bad endings. If I want bad stories, I can just watch the news.

GRACIE: Agreed. For me it was Danielle Steele’s A Perfect Stranger. I fell in love with the hero, Alex . So, tell us what do you know now about writing and the publishing industry that you wish you’d known before you started?

JAMI: About publishing: I had no idea that promotion would be so time-consuming.

As far as writing, be true to yourself and your voice. I started writing football romances many years ago. I LOVE football—good thing I’m married to a former college fullback. When I decided to try for publication, I was told they didn’t sell unless you were Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Now, they’re popping up everywhere. The Dance’s hero was originally a pro football player.

GRACIE: Please, give us a little story behind the story and how you came to write The Dance.

JAMI: As I mentioned above, The Dance, in its original form was a romance between a football player and a horse trainer. When I decided to post a fan fiction story, I changed the hero to the subject of that fan fic site. I was also inspired by many boat trips to the San Juan Islands.

GRACIE: Of all the stories you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

JAMI: One that hasn’t been published yet, or even finished, another of my football stories. Right now, I call it First and Goal. It is one I’ve been working on for years. It will be done this fall.

GRACIE: I know this is like asking a mother which is her favorite child, but which of your characters is your favorite and why?

JAMI: Rico, without a doubt. He was so much fun to write and soooo hot. What isn’t hot about a Latin man?

GRACIE: Not much, Jami, LOL. Now, what about your characters makes them unique and why?

JAMI: Almost every reviewer mentions my characters and how deep they are. I think my forte is writing 3-D characters. I am obsessed with what makes people tick, so I put a lot of that into my stories. I try to give them very real flaws and fears. My goal is to make the reader love them or hate them, but never be indifferent to them. They aren’t black and white, even my villains. They have many layers to them.

GRACIE: What is your favorite aspect of the writing process? Your least favorite?

JAMI: My favorite is the layering that I do in the edit process. That’s the part that gives the character’s depth and makes me care about them as people. The part I dislike is the first draft of the 2nd half of the book.

GRACIE: Are you a pantser or do you outline?

JAMI: Pantser, but as a Gemini, I do have some characteristics of a plotter, too. I keep a table of all my chapters and scene POVs, but I don’t plan this ahead of time. I merely use it to keep track of what I’ve done so far. I also keep character profiles. I might also write a one-page rough idea of where I’m going.

GRACIE: If you weren’t a writer, what other profession would you have chosen to pursue?

JAMI: Well, I actually have a full-time profession, and I love it. I’m in IT. My only regret is that I didn’t take a job with Microsoft 15 years ago. I’d be a retired millionaire by now. Oh, well.

GRACIE: Who are some of your favorite authors and why? Name some of your favorite books. What are some of your favorite genres and why?

JAMI: My all-time favorite book is Mirror Image by Sandra Brown. I love anything Susan Elizabeth Phillips writes (I actually buy her hardcover books). Others are Lori Foster, Lucy Monroe (my mentor), Tami Hoag, Lisa Jackson, Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Boyle, Joanne Ross.

I love to read historical romances, contemporaries, and suspense. I especially love really dark suspense.

GRACIE: What are you working on now? What should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

JAMI: I have two books under contract with Siren: A ménage, which features two pro football players and a women’s pro basketball player, titled Winner Takes All. I’m doing the final edits for The Gift Horse, this is the sequel to Who’s Been Sleeping in My Bed? about the oldest Reynolds’ brother, Carson.

I also have a football romance (the one mentioned above as my favorite) that I’d like to finish this winter.

GRACIE: Wow, Winner Takes All really sounds interesting! I’m sure your readers are already chomping at the bit for all of these stories. I know I am . Speaking of readers, do you have a website and/or how can readers contact you?

JAMI:
http://www.jamidavenport.com
http://jamidavenport.blogspot.com
http://www.myspace.com/jamidavenport
jamidavenport@att.net

GRACIE: Where and how can readers purchase and/or read samples of your work?

JAMI: From Siren’s website at http://www.sirenpublishing.com
Fictionwise, MobiPocket, and AllRomanceEBooks. Also in print at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

GRACIE: What advice do you have for beginning writers?

JAMI: Be wary of listening to well-meaning advice especially from critique groups. Don’t change your voice or your story to please someone else. You need to be true to your voice. Don’t follow trends unless you love writing those types of books. Eventually, what you love to write will become a trend, or you can create the next big trend yourself.

GRACIE: Anything else about yourself or your writing you’d like to share?

JAMI: Consider going the small pub route to get your feet wet. It’s very liberating because you’ll find that you can write what you want to write, not what’s selling in New York.

GRACIE: Thanks so much for taking time from your busy schedule, Jami, to share yourself and your work with us at The G-Spot and giving us a little insight into your writing and the writing process! We’ll let you get back to writing those wonderful books you write! All the best!
