Welcome New Subscribers!

I’m glad you’ve all signed up for this crazy ride and have decided you want to give my stories a try.

If djinns, ghosts, succubi or other mythological beings that go bump in the night are your jam, then you've come to the right place! If supernatural stories about psychics, reincarnation, time travel and wiccans arouse your curiosity (among other things 😉) then you’ve come to the right place.

Did I also mention spicy, sensual, erotic romance? Well, those are in my catalogue too. Just know, though my stories can be dark, and I take my characters through various trials and tribulations, they all get an HEA at the end. Always. Unless it’s my horror stories. For those, enter at your own risk 😂

The stories you will find in my catalogue include all of the above paranormal elements and beings and more. The characters are everyday people just like you and me, trying to survive and find love in a crazy mixed-up world. Okay, most of them might have a few gifts here and there that the rest of us don't, but otherwise, they are just like you and me, just a little larger than life😃

I believe I have a little something that all romance readers can appreciate. So sit back, enjoy the trip and stay abreast of what’s coming next!

Welcome back to this issue of The G-Spot!

Hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanza and brought in a fantastic New Year!

Me, I didn’t do too shabby. Spent the Eve stuffing my face, playing dominoes then watching the ball drop on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve with family….you know, the traditional stuff .

See below for what’s happening with me and my writing. Also, you’ll probably notice I’ve been on quite a little movie-going bender and I’ve caught some really excellent movies on Cable, DVD and in the theater. See my mini-reviews below.

Here’s looking forward to even more successes (and great movies ) in the New Year and a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous 2009!

HIGHLIGHTS – CABLE, DVD’s, THEATRICAL RELEASES:

CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, THE: Benjamin Button is born under tragic circumstances, coming into the world at the end of the Great War (WW I) with his mother dying directly after childbirth. Before her death, Caroline makes her husband Thomas promise to take care of their baby. Out of his mind with grief, Thomas snatches the odd and wizen infant up and blindly runs out into the night with the crying child until he comes across the back of a house at the end of an alley. He leaves the baby on the bottom of the steps, with a wad of crumbled up bills and thus begins Benjamin’s life raised in an old folks home by loving barren surrogate mother Queenie (Taraji P. Henderson) who believes that he is a miracle and that he was sent to her for a reason. This was a wonderful and whimsical movie that chronicles the life of an extraordinary man living in ordinary circumstances and the lives of the people that he touches and who touch him. The performances in this are Grade A and big kudos go out to Pitt, Blanchett and Henderson for making their characters come to life and leap off the scream with sympathy. Pitt and Blanchett especially had great chemistry and their characters’ unique love story was the driving force behind this movie. This drama, based on an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story, is yet another movie that had me misty-eyed toward the end (if not outright crying my eyes out) and one I enjoyed a great deal. It is a fanciful tale that brings man face to face with his mortality and is an inspiration to us all to make the best of the time we have on this earth whether we’re aging in reverse or not. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THE: One night more than a dozen scientists and civil engineers are summarily rounded up by the federal government, called into service, as it were, when the human race is placed in grave danger by an unidentified object on a direct collision course with earth. Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) emerges from the sphere that lands on the Great Lawn in Central Park. The rest of the movie is a race against time as Dr. Benson (Jennifer Connelly) tries to convince Klaatu that humanity is worth saving and doesn’t need to be destroyed in order to save the planet. While she is on this mission, the government, specifically the Secretary of Defense (Kathy Bates), is doing everything in its power to defend earth against the sphere and the robot that accompanies Klaatu on his fact-finding mission, thereby proving to the intergalactic diplomats that humans are self-destructive, violent, unwilling to change and basically not worth saving at all. I never saw the original, 1951 version (I know, how could I NOT!), so I went into this movie as a clean slate with a pretty open mind. Admittedly, Keanu was a big draw for me, so I really didn’t care what the critics said about his performance or the comparisons to the original movie. There weren’t as many special effects in this movie as I thought there would be, so if you’re going into it expecting lots of explosive effects a la Independence Day (one of my favorite movies) and/or other films of its ilk, you’ll be disappointed. The special effects, however, that are in the movie were sufficient enough to move the plot along without overpowering the sensitive characterizations, story and themes. Connelly is excellent as the scientist and single mother trying to raise a son who desperately misses his father. Jaden Smith does an admirable job as Jacob and Keanu, ah Keanu. Much has been said about him being perfect for the inhuman and dispassionate Klaatu. I say, hey, he’s playing to his power base and doing what works for him and his audience. I thought his performance was perfect for the part and he did a good job. At its heart, The Day the Earth Stood Still is primarily a cautionary tale in the vein of The Day After Tomorrow, The Happening, and other recent natural disaster movies that highlight the consequences of humanity’s arrogance and hubris. There’s nothing here to truly knock your socks off, but it was an enjoyable, solid movie to which I’d give 3 out of 5 Stars.

DEFINITELY, MAYBE: William Matthew Hayes is an ambitious Wisconsin University grad with a plan and big dreams of being the President of the United States. He settles, however, for going off to New York after graduation to work on the Clinton campaign. His college girlfriend, who was supposed to be a part of his plans has different ideas and William finds out about them when she comes to New York to surprise him with the news that she’s slept with his roommate right just as William pulls out a ring and is ready to propose. Emily is just one of a few women that William reminisces about when he relays the story of his past love lives to his precocious daughter who is concerned that he is not happy. This was a cute and romantic movie that proves that lovers can be friends and vice versa. Ryan Reynolds proves to be an excellent romantic lead, boyishly handsome, sexy, strong, witty and vulnerable all in the same breath and he had great chemistry with his screen daughter the ubiquitous and multi-talented Isla Fischer. I enjoyed this one a lot and Reynolds is definitely becoming a potential in my favorite, must-see actors’ book. I’d give this a 4 out of 5 stars.

GRAN TORINO: Clint Eastwood plays Walt Kowalski, an irascible old Korean War vet and an equal opportunity racist—at least on the surface. Walt is from the old school and hasn’t learned to accept disrespectful kids with their nose and navel piercings no matter their race or creed. Beneath all of Walt’s disdain and intolerance lies a tortured soul and man with more of an open mind and soft heart than even he knew he was capable of. Bee Vang plays Tao Van Lor the young Asian who is bullied by his cousin and several other Asian gang members to steal his next-door-neighbor, Walt’s car and what transpires after is a heartwarming story about coming to terms with past sins, tolerating those unlike oneself, but most of all the unlikely friendship that gradually develops between Walt and Tao. This was a great movie and I can’t say enough good things about the performances. Eastwood is, of course, on point throughout, a flawed man set in his ways who still manages to be sympathetic and lovable despite his bigoted dogma. Young Vang is engaging and earnest, his performance the perfect complement to Eastwood’s and the two have great chemistry together. There are some lighthearted, laugh-out-loud moments here (especially between Walt and Tao’s older sister Sue and the scene with Tao, Walt and Walt’s Italian barber) but also some heart-wrenchingly intense and heavy moments. Beyond all the racial rhetoric this is an affecting and haunting drama that will stay with the viewer long after the credits roll—a 5 out of 5 star movie.

MILK: This biopic about the life and death of California’s first openly-gay elected official was excellent, and an apt history lesson that couldn’t have been released at a better moment in time. It follows Harvey’s rise from gay local businessman in San Francisco to out-spoken gay advocate and politician and the people he touched and motivated along the way. There are several great stand-out performances (Josh Brolin and James Franco in particular) but it is Sean Penn who absolutely shines and is without a doubt Oscar-worthy. Half the time I forgot I was watching Penn. He immersed himself so deeply and effectively into his part that the actor simply disappeared until all I could see was the passionate gay advocate and politician. Aside from the flimsy and infamous “Twinkie Defense” that emerged from Milk’s senseless murder, this was an inspirational and provocative drama that I really enjoyed. I’d give this 5 out of 5 stars.

P.S. I LOVE YOU: Holly Kennedy likes to make plans, but she didn’t plan to become a widow at twenty-nine, not when she and her husband Jerry had so much loving and living to do together. Unfortunately, fate steps in and Jerry dies from a brain tumor before he and his wife could iron out their plans for the future, one of which was when or if to start having a family. Jerry Kennedy wasn’t much of a planner in life. He was a fun-loving, carefree Irish man who proves to be the same in death, leaving a legacy of letters for his young life to remind her to keep living life to the fullest and loving even without him. The sexy Gerard Butler isn’t on screen nearly enough, but he’s in the movie a lot more than I expected and that was a bonus. Hilary Swank did a pretty good job as his grieving wife, much better than I expected (I just didn’t think she would be believable as a sweet vulnerable widow, and maybe I just couldn’t picture her and Gerard together, but she proved me wrong, pulling off the vulnerable and sweetly humorous widow role convincingly). This was a sweet romance, with a nice twist, and some memorable performances in Kathy Bates, Gina Gershon, Harry Connick, Jr. and Lisa Kudrow who almost steals the show with some LOL moments reminiscent of her character on FRIENDS yet still showing versatility and depth not always found in her sitcom persona. 4 out of 5 stars.

RELIGULOUS: This Bill Maher vehicle is a tasty morsel of Q&A, interviews with religious, political and world leaders and followers and is full of Maher’s trademark sarcasm, humor, and religious and political analysis and commentary. Whether or not you’re a fan of REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER or Maher’s in general, this is an excellent movie that puts a spotlight on the hypocrisy of religion and how the lines have blurred between church and state (not just in our country but world-wide). This is an excellent movie for critical thinkers and those searching for answers. Bill never claims to have them, but he does give us all something to think about whether we agree with his dogma or not. I give it 5 out of 5.

RUINS, THE: This one turned out different than I expected too. At first I thought it was another DESCENT, but it had some basic differences that separate it from the previous spelunker-women-in-jeopardy movie. To begin with we have two young American couples nearing the end of their vacation in Mexico. They hook up with a German tourist who is going to be making a trip to a remote archeological dig site. His brother has already gone the day before, so he plans to hook up with him there and invites the Americans along. They agree to go, up for the adventure and something different to do rather than just sit at the pool and the beach during their entire holiday. Threatened by carnivorous plants at the ruins, lack of food and water, and the gate-keeping Mayan villagers who keep the tourists quarantined at the site and refuse to let them leave to spread the “disease”, the young tourists are in the middle of typical man vs man, man vs nature conflicts. The danger to the tourists quickly turns into a LORD OF THE FLIES type quest as they turn on each other in an attempt to defend themselves from the plants and villagers and survive. The film features sensitive and credible performances, especially by Jonathan Tucker and Jenna Malone and the question of who will survive and how the ones who do not will die, is a suspenseful ride that will keep the viewer on the edge of her seat. 3 out of 5 stars.

SEVEN POUNDS: Wow...just wow. I haven't cried this much since watching Pratt's death scene on E.R. It's difficult to say what this movie is about without giving too much away. To begin with, it's slow to start but the payoff in the end is immensely worth the trip as we watch Ben Thomas (Will Smith), an IRS agent with some murky motivation as he contacts various individuals under the guise of auditing their returns. One such individual is Emily Posa (Rosario Dawson), a young woman with congenital heart failure. This was an emotional tear-jerker in every sense of the word, a dramatic story of redemption and the ultimate sacrifice that a man on a mission and in love will make to make amends and for the woman he loves. Will Smith gives a powerful and heart-wrenching performance that just skirts the periphery of sentimentality and melodrama without ever falling over the edge. Rosario Dawson is his cinematic match in every sense and the rest of the supporting cast does admirable work too (standouts for me were Michael Ealy and Woody Harrelson). I still don't get the title (at least not the pounds part), but who cares? This was a 5-Star must-see. Just don't forget the Kleenex!

UNTRACEABLE: Starring Diane Lane as an FBI agent on the hunt for an ingenious internet serial killer who might not be choosing his victims randomly. This one was a little slow to start for me, but built up to a suspenseful and shattering crescendo. The technology and the killer’s inventive murder methods, rather than the characters and their backgrounds and motivations, are the main attractions here. Lane was suitably vulnerable and strong as the heroine who is both predator and prey, and the rest of the cast gave mostly serviceable performances. Just a fair warning, the scenes of murder are quite graphic and not for the squeamish or weak at heart. Overall, this was a good, solid, edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller. 3 out of 5 stars.

WATCHING THE DETECTIVES: This quirky romance stars Cillian Murphy as a video store owner and film noir buff who has his life turned upside down by a mysterious femme fatale with a crazy sense of humor and who likes to live life on the edge. Lucy Liu is perfect as Violet, the whimsical heroine who thinks life is an adventure and should be lived and experienced, not something to be watched from the sidelines like Cillian Murphy’s character Neil does. Murphy and Liu have excellent chemistry together and it was nice to see Murphy show his versatility in a light-hearted and romantic role, such a departure from the neurotics and sociopaths I’ve gotten use to seeing him play in the past. This was yet another movie title that escaped my understanding though the content itself was enjoyable. 3 out of 5 stars.

WHAT I'M READING/RECOMMENDED READS: Check out my ratings and/or full reviews for the following books at my shelf http://www.shelfari.com/gwiz10 or below unless otherwise indicated (i.e., Paranormal Romance Reviews, etc.):

BEAUTIFUL C_CKSUCKER by Barbara Sheridan: Ray Watts, a supporting but integral character from Sheridan’s previous and excellent m/m vampire romance, DARK WHISPERS (co-authored with Anne Cain) takes center stage here in this Little Tryst which shows how Ray, one of NYPD’s finest, is introduced to the world of BDSM by visiting Japanese Inspector Nabeshima whom he has been assigned to chauffeur around and play tour guide to. This one was a very erotic and sensual tease. Of course, I wanted more! Check it at Noble Romance Publishing http://www.nobleromance.com

COLOR OF LAW, THE by Mark Giminez (new-to-me author)

EVERLASTING BAD BOYS (various authors, anthology, new-to-me authors)

GET YOUR SEXY ON by Kimberly Kaye Terry (new-to-me author)

GROUNDED by Rie McGaha (new-to-me author): Dion is an out of control hedonist whose refusal to settle down and act responsibly is giving his brother Ira and their mother fits. His mother, desperately wanting grandchildren, decides to finally put a stop to her youngest, pampered son’s debauchery when she puts a pretty human, who has just lost her job, in her son’s path. This one was cute and a nice tease. Check it out at http://www.nobleromance.com

HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE by Nalini Singh:

MISMATCHED by Laura Major (new-to-me author): Justin and Tessa have known each other for more than half their lives. Best friends since childhood, they now both work for the same firm on Wall Street, and live in the same apartment complex, next door to each other with each other’s keys. They do almost everything together except have sex. But Justin, in love with Tessa for as long as he can remember, is about to change this if he can help it. When Tessa decides to take the reins of her love life rather than continue to let friends and family fix her up with a bunch of losers, Justin has the perfect way to make sure that he is the only man left standing among all of Tessa’s internet connections. This was a sweet and sexy, fast-paced interracial romance that I really enjoyed. You can check this one out at http://www.amirapress.com

MY PREROGATIVE by Sasha White (new-to-me author)

NINETEEN MINUTES by Jodie Picoult

ULTIMATE WEAPON by Shannon McKenna

PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION by Susan Donovan

SOUL BONDS: COMMON BONDS 1 and RUSH IN THE DARK: COMMON BONDS 2 by Lynn Lorenz (new-to-me author): M/M erotic paranormal romances, the first story features Sammi, a young man on the run who has a special gift and is trouble with a capital T. He meets a grief-stricken and lonely Mitchell at a bar. The two of them instantly hit it off and embark on a dangerous whirl-wind love affair that turns their lives upside down as well as puts them in jeopardy from the greedy slaver hunting Sammi. In the sequel, Mitchell’s best friend Brian, a private detective, meets his match in sexy cowboy Rush. Unfortunately, Rush has some issues to deal with the least of which is the memory of his homophobic and intolerant father that keeps Rush from being himself. Brian is patient, but refuses to go back in the closet and won’t accept Rush until he can come out and live his life and love Brian openly. Appearances by Mitchell and Sammi complete this erotic and sensitive romance and the climactic love-scene is both explosively imaginative and inspired. Both books are well-worth the read M/M erotic paranormal romance fan. Check them out at http://www.loose-id.com

THIN ICE by Liana Laverentz (new-to-me author)

TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb

VGL MALE SEEKS SAME by Rick R. Reed: Ethan is in his forties, not drop-dead gorgeous or terribly exciting. He likes the simple things in life—a good book, the theater—and would love to share them with a man who has his same interests. His luck in the romance department has been bad to non-existent. But this is all about to change when Ethan decides to conduct a little social experiment online and “meets” the drop-dead-gorgeous, Brian. This first romance by the popular horror writer whose been called “the gay Stephen King” was fast-paced and a sweetly innocent and basic story with the twist of technology that brings the two lovers together. I enjoyed this a lot but had to ask the author what VGL stands for because I really didn’t know (Very Good Looking, in case you didn’t know either ;) Check this book out at Amber Quill http://www.amberquill.com

Currently Reading: FAST WOMEN by Jennifer Crusie (new-to-me author believe it or not!); HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT by Cynthia Eden (new-to-me author); JAKE’S RETURN by Liana Laverentz; ONE SILENT NIGHT by Sherrilyn Kenyon

NEW REVIEWS (EXCERPTS):

BENEATH THE SURFACE:

“In BENEATH THE SURFACE, McKeever created a passionate love story riddled with themes of redemption, forgiveness, and acceptance. With her signature touch of paranormal, characters lightly touch other world elements but maintain normalcy, an effective touch. Moving, with highly-charged, delicious sex scenes, BENEATH THE SURFACE will no doubt scratch your erotic itch . . .at least until you can fully medicate. A definite four sistah hugs for a delectable weekend read.” 4 Sistah Hugs --- Sistah Tasha. SistahFriend Book Club. To read the complete review, visit here:

BOUNCER’S FOLLY:

“I recommend this story for any M/M Fans, it is scorching, and well worth reading, and although I have not actually read the first two books in this series, based on the skillful writing and interesting plot of this story, I'd think that they would be good additions to read also. This was my first Gracie C. McKeever book, but it certainly will not be my last.” 4 Cherries, Anthurium, Whipped Cream Erotic Romance Reviews. GUARDIAN SEDUCTRESS:

“This book was full of almost non-stop action. Even though the book was ladled with scorching sex scenes, I thought they were tastefully done and not too over the top. The book also had a nice balance of storyline versus sex scenes, which made for a great read as well. If you enjoy reading paranormal books about races from other dimensions, you may want to pick up Guardian Seductress by Gracie C. McKeever.” 4 Headstones, Virginia for Bitten By Books. To read the full review visit: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=1606

IN PLAIN SIGHT:

“I give this book 4 1/2 tombstones. I really enjoyed the twist on the switching bodies - only this time, two people are pretty much trying to share the same body. Talk about an out of body experience! I have to admit, the ending was not quite what I expected, but I really did enjoy Sam and Dara’s story. It was an interesting tale. The book does take a few twists and turns as they work to find out who is out to get Dara. The romance is steamy and the plot thickens with each page, and in my mind, it is an unexpected ending. Gracie C. McKeever writes an exciting and compelling story in her book In Plain Sight. I would recommend that if you enjoy books about fate and ghosts that you pick this up today.” 4.5 Headstones, Virginia for Bitten By Books. To read the full review visit: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=1821

MANIFEST DESTINY:

“Manifest Destiny is an enjoyable romp through the trials and tribulations that haunt the onset of a relationship. This is the third book in The Matchmaker series, it stands alone, but I am definitely going to look up the previous books. I found myself entranced with Evelyn’s roller coaster emotions. Most women can sympathize with wanting someone badly, but needing to protect themselves as well. Jason’s determination to win Evelyn over tugs your heartstrings. Let me tell you, when these two hook up the pages smolder! Ms. McKeever is a brilliant story teller who has taken a time honored romance favorite, the ultimate bad boy/cowboy story, and given it a twist that will surprise and entrance you.” 4.5 Stars, Joletta, for Sensual Ecataromance. NINE INCHES OF SNOW AND THE EBONY PRINCESS:

“Gracie C. McKeever has written a great fantasy, which takes the reader on a wild ride. Ms. McKeever has taken fantasy from some common fairy tales and paired it with modern day slang and her own writing style. [Nine Inches of Snow and the Ebony Princess] moves along at an easy pace, building with action and drama to keep you reading. The characters are likeable and well developed, as is the story line. If you have already read and enjoyed other McKeever stories, this one will not leave you disappointed.” 4 Delightful Divas, Melissa for Dark Diva Reviews. http://darkdivareviews.webs.com/paranormal.htm

“Nine Inches of Snow and the Ebony Princess was a cute fairy tale, and while the characters where familiar - the prince, the down-trodden princess and the evil step mom - it was still a fresh and sexy read that left me wanting to know more about Aziza and David’s life together.” 4 Headstones, Shona for Bitten By Books. To read the full review, visit here: http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=1661

PREDATOR’S SALVATION:

“The further I got into Predator’s Salvation, the more trouble I had putting the book down and walking away to get other things done. Gracie C. McKeever weaves a compelling and erotic storyline in this book. There are parts of the book that refer book to Guardian Seductress, so it may be better to read that book before reading this one, but I would definitely recommend this one as a must read!” 4 Headstones, Virginia for Bitten By Books. Blurb:

On the run from a murderous uncle, Katie married outlaw Ben Cready the day before he was supposed to hang. They shared one night of explosive passion and for six months, she'd believed herself a widow. Now Ben is back to claim what's his, and that includes the sweet bride he'd never been able to forget.

Here's a wee peek:
Without warning he lowered his head and kissed her, swallowing her gasp of surprise. Katie’s knees buckled and his hands tightened, holding her secure. His tongue swept the inside of her mouth while he pulled her up hard against him. Her hands bunched the fabric of his shirt against his shoulders and she hungrily kissed him back, her senses spinning wonderfully as her breasts flattened against the hard wall of his chest.

He lifted his mouth from hers but didn’t her go.

Her breath hitched and trembled as she slowly got her equilibrium back. When the ground beneath her feet seemed to right itself again, Katie took a step back and looked up into Ben’s face.

His eyes were soft as he lifted a finger to her chin, tapping it lightly. "You best go get that coffee on. Then wash that perfume off you. I don’t like it." He stepped away from her and went around to the back of the wagon to pick up the box, leaving Katie staring after him with a storm of emotions churning through her. Embarrassment, vexation and desire. Oh yes, one couldn’t forget the desire that constantly simmered under her skin whenever she was near him. Lord, what was wrong with her?
She mused over that very question as she bathed in the tub. She should be terrified off him, but she wasn’t, not physically anyway. He was everything she’d been brought up to fear; lawless, immoral, he’d kill a man without a second thought.

But when she needed him, he’d been there for her with a single act of kindness that had changed her world forever.

Upon arriving in Texas, Katie had been at a loss for what to do. She hadn’t thought beyond escape. Her childhood nanny Delilah had helped her escape the house after she’d witnessed her mother’s murder and got her on the train before dawn. Katie had no real skills beyond helping her mother run the household so she had hoped to get a job in a restaurant or something in that vein. But in the small town, there had been nothing available to her in the one restaurant. The other option that occurred to her was to sell herself, but she had recoiled from the very thought at first.

As the hours past and night came, Katie’s desperation had increased. She had no money on her person. The only money the nanny had been able to provide had gone to her train fare.

Then she found herself in the saloon. Katie told herself she’d just do it the one time. Just to get enough money for something to eat and provide a roof over her head. Tomorrow would be better; she’d have time to look around for more opportunities for employment.

That’s when she’d first seen him. He sat in the corner, watching her. The air practically crackled around him and people slowly turned their attention to him. She tried to ignore him but felt his gaze on her like a second skin as she looked around for a man who didn’t scare her, someone who looked like they might take pity on her situation, someone nice, even kind.

But someone found her instead. He was tall, dark haired with a smooth, easy smile. He’d called her gorgeous when she knew she wasn’t and asked her if she was looking for a good time.
It took her a moment to realize what he meant and even though that was indeed what she had come there for, her entire body seized up in protest. No, she didn’t want this. She couldn’t do it. Unable to speak for the terror that closed up her throat, Katie ran out of the saloon.

She slept in the livery stable and was chased out the next morning after an uneasy sleep interrupted by gun shots and loud music spilling out of the saloon.

By noon she was starving and still no closer to getting employment. She was going to try the general store next, but a display of tempting shiny apples caught her eye first. Her stomach grumbled and she’d decided to feed herself first. Looking around to make sure no one was looking, she pocketed one and then dared to grab another.

It was her mistake. A woman came running out of the store, screaming at her for stealing and Katie had turned and ran, running straight into the sheriff who promptly arrested her.

Terrified and overcome by so much horror in such a short time, Katie broke down and tearfully told Sheriff Doherty everything; her mother’s murder, hiding from her uncle, arriving in Texas.

That’s when he had spoken up from inside the holding cell. Katie had turned with a start to see the man from the corner of the saloon, standing behind the bars.

The infamous Ben Cready.

Her savior.

Katie closed her eyes and rested her head against the edge of the tub, careful not to slosh any water on the bedroom floor. The water was beginning to cool. She didn’t realize she’d been humming until he appeared in the doorway. She blushed, resisting the urge to sink further into the water, away from his gaze. That would be silly considering he’d already seen all of her there was to see.
"Christ, woman." His voice was thick as he stared at her, the heat in his eyes making her feel more naked than she already was.

She didn’t think that merited a response.

"I’m gonna fuck you tonight," he informed her. "You got any objection to that you best tell me now.”

She shook her head, then, not wanting him to misunderstand, she quickly added, "No. No I don’t."

He nodded and then silently walked away.

THIS ISSUE’S AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: EROTIC ROMANCE AUTHOR, E. JAMIE

Author Bio: E. Jamie has been writing since she was 11 years old and hasn’t been bored a day in her life since!

The Interview:

GRACIE: I’m excited to have you here at The G-Spot, E. Jamie! Please tell us a little about yourself and how, when and why you got into writing?

E. JAMIE: I was always very lucky in that I always knew what I wanted to be. I’ve been writing since I was 11 and reading all my life. Being able to contribute to the romance genre with my own ideas seemed like the coolest job in the world! Also, I’m very much a homebody and enjoy my own company so writing was the perfect match for my personality. I tried acting for a while and as much as I loved it, it was just much too nerve wracking.

GRACIE: Is there any one thing or person in your life that inspired your writing? Any one thing or person that influenced the genre(s) you write in?

E. JAMIE: I was an only child for about the first four years of my life and a pretty shy kid so I would daydream a lot and play pretend and that sort of progressed into writing my adventures down on paper. Then when my sisters came along I would sometimes entertain them by reading my stories out loud. I’d say the biggest influence on my writing is my best friend as she’s the one who kicked my butt to finish my stories and get them out there. I have a tendency to write long winding epics and without her always after me I’d lose steam and never finish. I think the first romance authors that influenced me were Danielle Steel and Jackie Collins which pretty much describes my style right there! (laughs)

GRACIE: What do you know now about writing and the publishing industry that you wish you’d known before you started?

E. JAMIE: Patience is a virtue! The journey from acceptance to publication takes a loooong time and I’ve learned to just submit and get working on the next thing instead of waiting to hear if it’s a yes or no.

GRACIE: Please, give us a little story behind the story and how you came to write To Love a Knight?

E. JAMIE: Ah well, like I mentioned before, I tend to write long winding epics if I don’t stop myself so I began writing short stories to test myself and see if I could. Also, people always seem to really like the love scenes in my stories so I began checking out erotic fiction like the Black Lace series and anthologies like that to see if there was a market for short erotic love stories and lo and behold there was! One of my favorite movies is A Knight’s Tale with the late great Heath Ledger and the idea for To Love A Knight kind of grew from there.

GRACIE: What about writing historical erotic romance do you enjoy? What about writing contemporary romance do you enjoy? What do you think the challenges are of each?

E. JAMIE: Well, one of my favorite genres to read is definitely historical romance. I just love the heroes and heroines from that era. I loved that the heroines allowed their men to be men, chivalrous and yes sometimes arrogant but the women back then knew how to rein that arrogance in without emasculating them. In the erotic sense, I’m a firm believer that no one was as ‘proper’ as history would have us believe. I mean seriously, with all those illegitimate children the history books are filled with? The challenges are definitely centered around the research aspects. I mean, you want it to feel real but you don’t want to paint the whole story like a history lesson…though I did enjoy history in school. (laughs)

With contemporaries I like showing strong women who are still loving and warm. I mean, I find it sad that in some contemporary romantic fiction the woman is an utter b**** for the first half of the novel for no reason at all other then to show how ‘strong and independent’ she is. I like a strong woman who isn’t afraid to be vulnerable and warm and actually likeable. The hero has to have a reason to actually fall in love with her. Those are the kind of heroines I love to read and try my best to write, therein lies the challenge for me.

GRACIE: Of all the stories you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

E. JAMIE: Thus far it’s my current one out now with Amira Press called Redemption. I looooove me some outlaw cowboys. I think it’s such an emotional story as well and erotic one. Katie is such a sweet, innocent and Ben is so world weary and hard and yet they compliment each other so well and lift each other up.

GRACIE: I know this is like asking a mother which is her favorite child, but which of your characters is your favorite and why?

E. JAMIE: So far my favorite character is Katie Beaumont in Redemption. She comes across so sweet and innocent and yet there is a core of steel in her that really comes through when those she loves are threatened. She is the ideal heroine that I like to read so I knew I wanted to try and put all of those ideal characteristics in her.

GRACIE: What about your characters makes them unique and why?

E. JAMIE: My heroines are strong yet likeable. I think there’s a bit of a saturation of the ‘kick ass heroine’ in the market. My heroes are strong but they are tender and loving to their women.

GRACIE: What is your favorite aspect of the writing process? Your least favorite?

E. JAMIE: These depend on the day. (laughs) When the writing is flowing and the scenes are coming together on screen the way they are in my head then life is beautiful, when it’s not I want to pull out my fingernails with pliers! Same goes for the editing process which is sometimes my favorite thing, when I can come up with a better turn of phrase then what’s written in the first draft, it’s awesome, but when I can’t figure out a better word for the first one I feel like an illiterate goob.

GRACIE: Are you a pantser or do you outline?

E. JAMIE: Oh definitely an outliner. I’m in utter awe of pantsers. I couldn’t just sit in front of a blank screen and put a character in a room and not know what they were doing and where they were going. Now by outlining, I don’t mean that twists and surprises don’t happen, that’s a lot of fun when they do! But the basic journey is set.

GRACIE: If you weren’t a writer, what other profession would you have chosen to pursue and why?

E. JAMIE: I would have been an actress. I took drama in high school and for two years in college and I loved it, but it was too hard on my nerves. I did well but inside I was a wreck of nerves. I found with writing I could have the best of both worlds. I could have make these characters come alive on paper but didn’t have to get up in front of people!

GRACIE: I see you list Diana Gabaldon, Julia Quinn and Catherine Anderson among some of your favorite authors. What about these authors’ work do you enjoy? Name some of your favorite books. What are some of your favorite genres and why?

E. JAMIE: Catherine does fantastic emotional romances. She knows how to showcase the healing power that love can have. Julia Quinn mixes both comedy and romance expertly, though the comedy doesn’t overpower the romance which is first and foremost in all her stories. Her heroines are bright and likeable and charm the pants of the heroes. Diana’s writing is so rich and detailed without hitting you over the head with the historical detail. She gives you enough to put you there. Her hero Jamie Fraser is one of the sweetest, strongest, sexiest men I have ever read. Anything Catherine or Julia writes usually ends up in my keeper shelf and I read Diana’s Jamie/Claire Outlander series once a year if I can!

Historical romance is my favorite romance genre and if we’re talking paranormals, it’s time travel and the whole ‘fallen angel’ thing that I love.

I also HAVE to mention my other favorite series which is Paullina Simon’s Bronze Horseman series which is a Dr Zhivago-ish romance that takes place in Russia during WW2 and is centered around an American solider and a Russian girl. It’s about 4 books long. One of the most beautiful romances I have ever read.

GRACIE: What are you working on now? What should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

E. JAMIE: Write now I am working on a contemporary erotic romance called Till Death Do Us Part which is a rich girl/poor boy romance. Sara Hawthorn falls in love with Connor Nolan but her family doesn’t approve and has him murdered…or so Sara thinks. To avoid an arranged marriage Sara marries Connor’s best friend Aaron, but what happens when Connor returns????

I hope to keep writing erotic romances and writing in other genres as well, I don’t want to just write one genre forever. I’d like to go back and forth and try everything.

GRACIE: Do you have a website and/or how can readers contact you?

E. JAMIE: Yep. Readers can contact me via my website www.ejamie.net

GRACIE: Where and how can readers purchase and/or read samples of your work?

E. JAMIE: Readers can find excerpts on my website and buy my books through there and directly through my publisher at www.amirapress.com

GRACIE: What advice do you have for beginning writers?

E. JAMIE: There’s the BIC method (Butt In Chair) but I also subscribe to the MYA method (Move Your Ass) you can write and write but if you never get out there and submit your work, you’ll never make your dreams come true! You have to send your stuff out. Yes it’s nerve wracking but once you start submitting it becomes addictive and fun!

And write the story you want to write! Don’t pander to trends, like if you don’t think you can write shape shifters or vampire’s don’t force yourself cause you think that’s what’s selling. Write the story that’s in your heart and you’ll find the right home for it.

GRACIE: Anything else about yourself or your writing you’d like to share?

E. JAMIE: I give myself permission to write utter crap for the first draft just to get the story out and then I go back and fix it and make it hopefully better and better. Thank God for beta’s and editors because slowly but surely they’re rubbing off on me.

Now for a little non-writing related, “fun” questions :

GRACIE: I see that you love to cook. What would you say is your specialty or best dish?

E. JAMIE: Oooh let’s see. I make this amazing chicken and fries dinner with my own special reduced gravy!

GRACIE: What is your favorite food?

E. JAMIE: My mom’s duck. Fantastic.

GRACIE: Tell us one thing about yourself that not too many people know.

E. JAMIE: I can’t write in silence! I need either the TV or the radio on. If it’s too quiet my mind wanders.

GRACIE: Give us one word that you think your closest friends would use to describe you.

E. JAMIE: Genuine.

GRACIE: What do you consider your biggest weakness? Your biggest strength?

E. JAMIE: My biggest weakness is that I’m stubborn. My biggest strength would be that I’m very true to myself, sometimes that manifests itself as stubbornness but I’d rather be stubborn than a doormat. I’ve been the latter and I’m much happier now that I’m true to myself and make myself happy first before anyone else.

GRACIE: Thanks so much for taking time from your busy schedule, E. Jamie, to share yourself and your work with us at The G-Spot and giving us a little insight into your writing and the writing process! We’ll let you get back to writing those wonderful books you write (and making those tasty dishes )! All the best!
