The art of negotiation.
How or how not to get
another person to give
you what you want.
A got it, B wants it
A- I got it B- I want it
A- You know it's mine, not yours
B- Yes, I know it's yours, but you could at
least share it with me.
A- I want to keep it for myself, I don't
want to share it with you
B- I'll really please you if you share it with me
A- How are you going to plaese me?
B- Well, I'll pay you for it
A- You must know that there are some things
money can't buy
B- I am not sure of that, I've been able to
get what I could pay for
A- So you think I'm for sale, at your bidding?
B. No, I don't think that, but you'll be pleased
with what I going to pay.
A. We are having a conversation, of a sort,
that you don't have to pay for
B- You know I want more from you than a
conversation, of a sort.
A- I've told you that you can't have what
you want from me
B- Can't you just share it this one time
with me, like you share love?
A- No, you can't have it and I won't share
it with you
B- You're going to be sorrow that you
didn't let me have it
A- Goodbye.
B- You can let me know when you change
your mind.
In this dialogue person A is able to see
how he/she handles a situation when another
person attempts to get something from
him/her, especially when he/she does not
want to give it up or share it. Even more
important, person B recognizes how he/she
attempts to get something from another
person, particularly, how he/she engages
in manipulation that includes attempting
to make the other person feel guilty,
offering pay or bribery, playing weak
(self-pity), etc.
There are ways other than manipulation
to employ in attempting to get what you
want from another person which begins
with self-respect and respecting the other
person, including his/her choices. Be
positive. Better things await you when you
are authentic and offer compassion.
Once again, wise advice. I rarely ask for something unless it's available when I need it. And I find negotiation over something I don't need to be quite ridiculous.
