I'm there for you,
and every other person
who needs to know the way.
I don't begrudge you
my friendship,
my smile
or my shoulder,
when you need to cry.
I like to be able to
hug you,
hold you,
and make you smile again,
all of you.
But who wants to know
when I'm on my own
and wanting to give up.
Sure, everyone crowds around,
everyone runs to my side
to hear the latest scandal
in my hidden twisted world.
But who really wants to know
the things that destroy me,
so that they can help me?
Who really wants to know
what's going on,
without a motive?
Who wants to know what
terrors plague my dreams
and my reality,
what scars this girl so badly
that she forgets how to smile?
They think to themselves.
Don't they get it?
For so many years,
I forced myself to smile
and forgot how to cry.
Then everything came rushing back,
like a bad memory, after a bout of amnesia
my weaknesses,
and my fear of love and hate
my fear of failing and even success.
I fear being so successful,
the further up you go,
the further you have to fall...
But who wants to know about me
and my fears
and my sadness,
who wants to know anything
other than my smile....
