Lord, I didn't know you then
     but you have always known me
You gave me the greatest gift of life
     when you hung upon the tree

The nails that pierced your hands
     the blood pouring from your side
The crown of thorns upon your head
     it should have been me who died

"I'm a sinner Lord", I cried to you
     down on bended knee
Not knowing that the love you gave
     would save me for eternity

Thank you for your mercy and grace
     for finding me when I was lost
For taking on the sins of mine
     When you hung upon the cross
