The storm, sudden,
like an old woman’s temper,
blew in from the south,
a gift from the coast’s
summer hurricane season.
The downpour chased children inside,
and fishermen back to the shore,
then abruptly abated,
disappeared,
stealing the heat out of the
August day.
As the fog melted,
leaving behind the cool, still air,
the glory of the rainbow
was revealed:
Perfection glowing
in all of nature’s colors;
her pale twin sister’s ribbons
spread across the water.
People gathered across
the boardwalk,
united,
looking to the sky,
silent in the majesty of the moment,
suddenly certain
of God’s existence.
