It began with the dream …

A shapeless dance of colors

and images that elevated

body temperature,

hormone levels,

awakened the beginnings of desire …

The alarm failed to sound,

forgotten the night before,

in the frenetic business

of a family winding down.

No time for morning passion …

A shower, quick cup of coffee

and a lingering look

as he slept on his belly,

naked cheeks cooling

below the ceiling fan.

Quick kiss atop his head …

The fun of technology

as a mid morning text message

begins the teasing dance

of seduction …

his typed promises of kisses in

secret places.

Lunch with co-workers:

discussions of deadlines, bosses,

weekend plans,

while drifting aimlessly in thoughts

of the night ahead,

and his return to my bed.

Renewed energy due

to anticipation clears

the desk of work

piled throughout the week.

Busy hands to keep the

mind sane, libido calm.

A phone call,

late afteroon,

his voice reverberates

with words that kiss my mind

with their intentions.

The damn clock slowing

its circuit …

The ache of desire,

built through the day,

the mind and body joining

in a dance of anticipation,

seduction, hunger …

It ends where it began,

nearly a dream as

desire and sweat commingle

in our climatic dance.

Reunited, complete release.

Ah, such sweet dreams …

chuckled as I read, "The damn clock slowing, its circuit …"

You have described the heat of desire perfectly. Your words builds up the reader in the same way that desire causes it heat! Fantastic writing.

It IS all in the anticipation, after all! Dreams like these can keep on building towards an ever-shifting climax, unlike the reality which will inevitability then pursue a designated course. This is a deft write which amply demonstrates that what goes on INside of our heads is much more powerful, mostly, than what goes on OUTside! Glad there is release in this and not frustration - which, of course, is another less-palatable option! Finely tuned poem, Leysa, thank you. Kate x

" ... The ache of desire, built through the day, the mind and body joining in a dance of anticipation, seduction, hunger ..." What a sweet dream, indeed. Almost on the same page as my "Desire" poem. Great poem, Leysa!!

God bless,

Sandie.

Leysa,

Everything good must have a beginning. Very well written. Love the anticipation.
