i walk down the slope of the green creek coulee
amongst the cottonwoods and willows.
at the creek i turn north
following the water
down to the river.
there i ford the creek
then climb the coulee's western slope.
not far.
just up to a little bench,
there i sit down.
it is 1870 here.
no fences,
no plough,
no combines,
no CPR,
no cattle.
just
tipi rings, buffalo bones,
prairie grass.
the land as it has been for ten thousand years.
i come here often,
when the burden of progress threatens
my health
my sanity
my soul.
i stay an hour,
or two allowing
the ancient land,
the vast eternal sky and
the singing hopeful creek
to enchant,
purify,
console and
heal me.
today,
i will stay awhile longer,
leaving just enough daylight to walk out
to the 21st century. . .

Excellent topic - time travel. Maybe it is possible; who knows.
Enjoyed this one very much.
Ah yes, I enjoy this sort of time travel, also, and the longing for it only seems to deepen as the bustle of uncivilized civilization grows noisier around me. With progress, so called, we have regressed in so many ways...
If it were that easy to travel back in time, I would be there daily, as you seem to be, John, an excellent idea, wish I had thought of it, LOL! Peace, Ed & Rufuz
Major League ballplayer Justin Moore is kidnapped from his own ballpark and transported to a foreign land. It might take high-level international negotiations to free him. Or maybe he will take matters into his own hands.
In a post-coup America, an Illinois farm boy is drawn into the resistance by his brother's death. Captured, he is given a choice: betray his friends, or the girl he loves will be lobotomized.
