i stood in the middle of a frozen northern river
enduring the wind,
the north wind.
" bow down, mortal, i am the north wind. "
" i will not bow to you. "
i stood on the great prairie beneath the arrogant
endless sky, insignificant beneath
that sky.
" bow down, mortal, i am the eternal sky. "
" i will not bow down to you."
i stood on the shore of the great water feeling
its ebb and flow, watching its waves
pound the shore.
" bow down, mortal, i am the great sea. "
" i will not bow down to you. "
mortal
i am.
insignificant
am i
before wind,
and
sea ,
and
sky.
but
i am
and i will stand
before the wind
beside the sea
under the sky.
Love this poem, John, and its wisdom. We humans are mortal and insignificant on this wondrous planet; and we don't own it; we share it with everyone and everything else. Wish more humans felt the same.
