dont know who "he" is --- some new leader raised up to replaced the current generation of failed leadershp.
perhaps
maybe he is the spirit on New Orleans
or perhaps "he" is the tough creative spirit that resides in even the weakest and most timid of us.
why a tenor sax? why not?
His thrown back head
counterbalances his
tenor saxophone.
Legs wide,
eyes closed,
he digs deep,
to the bottom
of his soul --
hot licks and blues roll across
the waters of destruction:
he plays to comfort,
he plays to exorcise
he plays to hear
the cries of
the suffering.
Over the waters of creation
rolls the sound of his horn
calling forth
dream,
courage,
hope,
and
vision.
The suits in Washington
do not like him
he is too wild, too free,
too American
for them.
They wish he'd go way,
but he will not
go away.
Legs wide,
eyes closed
he stands there
thigh deep in the Mississippi
blowing his guts out
calling
a city,
his city,
back into life.
