it has been quite a year...testing our resolve to remain compassionate human beings....
what to think
when the earth shakes
and the sea rises
what to think
when the wind
screams and
the sea
escapees its
appointed bounds
what to think
when the rains won’t stop
and the mud runs down like water
what to think when
the ground skips and dances
an all the buildings fall down
what to think
it’s the end of the world
don’t count of it
somnambulant self-indulgent privileged types
fear the end where their privilege is stripped away
somnambulant self-indulgent self righteous types
look forward to the end as a confirmation of their self proclaimed privilege
what to think?
it’s a judgment and a punishment
makes a good sermon
but who is punishing who,
and for what?
god is punishing “them”
because of the preacher’s bete noir
or
mother nature in punishing “them’
because of the speaker’s favorite eco-sin
It’s always them –
those people over there
those people who suffer
reap what they sow
i don't hink so
what to think?
that the world is a dangerous
place – dark and capricious –
out to get you personally…
there is some,
small wisdom
in paranoia
what to think?
it is not the end of the world
nor is it some kind of
tit for tat payment for sin
what to think?
think this
these things happen
because they happen
they are part of cycles
and processes older then
human kind
older than Life itself
what to think when these things happen
don’t think
rather
look at the suffering of others
with calm, courage and compassion
but specially with compassion
in their faces we see our own,
in their vulnerability we see our own
don’t think
reach out
in justice
and compassion
for the sake of
our common clay

"common clay" clever way of putting it. You are so right. This is all a part of nature that is totally out of our control. All we can do is ride with it and hope to survive each catastrophic event. Afterall, in a billion or so years our Sun will be so big that we'll be as hot as Venus. And then what...Mars here we come. Time to consume another planet. ~ Sara
