w.i.p.
the fields north of oshawa are sprouting subdivisions like there was no tomorrow --

Along the wharf the fishing fleets rots.
There are no more fish, no more cod.
A hundred hundred jobs, a way of life
lost to greed and need and stupidity.

The final crop from the back forty
springs: Houses in senseless rows.
Ugly houses slouching where once
apples, wheat and corn flourished.

Ugly, senseless houses sprouting
mushroom like in the back forty,
toadstools in grotesque array.
Regimented, sterile, stifling dead...

Sterile and dead the brown lands
where once vital industries stood.
Too defiled to reclaim, padlocked,
they lie barren, rotting in the sun.

Not master plan, nor commonweal,
nor communal vision control this rot
just the unfettered market forces:
covetousness, greed and stupidity

Thanks for posting this, John. This sickening phenomenon is occuring tenfold in the states. Will we ever learn?

Yes, John, that seems to be happening everywhere...forget the trees, forget that they give us pleasure as well as oxygen, take them out of the ground and build homes in their place...greed it is, not progress...Peace, Ed & Rufuz

John, this is a very POWERFUL write. It would seem there's no stopping these developers. The money they make packing 10-15 houses on an acre of land is unbelievable. Keep writing...there's power in words...so maybe someday!! Great write.
Blessings,
Libby

A homonymless man writes shows what it's like to look up the laid he skirts when you’re lying prone(d) to the sidewalk, beer / joint / needle dangling from your hand /lips / arm.
