what can you do about being used
the ache is unbearable
the feeling...abused
sticking it out but sensing the grind
winding and streaming and toking the line
it isn't physical but mental decline
stepping on forward but falling behind
there's a door yonder it's open for you
just when you get there it closes too
love looks in and teases the heart
giving a beat then tearing it apart
age taking family with a peeling death knoll
angel of Mercy has you on hold
kids all going in separate ways
you left alone to cross out the days
one and the other it goes by so slow
watching the creek as it ebbs and flows
seeking the quiet when the heart wants to shout
wanting and waiting for an easier way out
sobbing in buckets to please the pain
hiding in darkness tears power rain
if justice wants mercy when morals recede
then love can't grow in any of these
life can be hell and right now its here
tomorrow will come and so will the fear
its trying to combat the focus that's stained
when love has been hijacked
when sadness complains
for lonely tired hearts
for women or men
pain knows no lover when it starts or it ends.
It seems that It's true "Love looks in and teases the heart giving a beat then tearing it apart" In the long term the sadness of love is all I've ever known.Though I've allways givin all of myself in the hope the joy would last. Such a perfect poem, I have read it over and over, It speaks more to me every time and It resonates in my mind with every rhyme. Pierre.
Pardon My Armchair Psychology…but I am captivated by this.
I have seen this door into the knowing unknown in several of your writes Susan and I am drawn to this door to nowhere. In my observation, I see the sun and the author beckoning the viewer and the reader in this instance to step into the warmth of the artist / authors heart and journey with them into a knowing light…only once out the door (and into the depths of the writers soul does one see the cold hurt that lies beneath the placid surface. This is an exceptional write depicting the tragedies that often come our way… yet the hope still is in the light…well done.
You know Susan, Andy may have hit the nail on the head. It's about choices, and sometimes we think we are making the right ones...sometimes we just settle and we set ourselves up for the worst. You are right, there's nothing that feels worse than being used and wanting something real in your life when it's in a state of change...especially as children become adults. The poem speaks volumes and as always, dear friend, is perfect rhyme and meter, in spite of the sadness.
Love,
Taylor
first of all, you did a great job of rhyme in this poem ... it is a painful write but it is focused and speaks forcefully with the voice of a saddened heart ...
Oh my Susan! This is a heartbreaker/tearjerker combo for all who have been there. You write it so well with such abandon it makes it even more emotional! I feel it deeply! My heart is with yours.
A painful write on how an unhappy relationship affects everyone. This will touch the hearts of many that read it and can relate to those circumstances.

The whole damn poem is quotable. Jeez! I was in need of this poem at this time at this place from one of my very favorite poets. Now!!! What a poem, it took the reader (me) on a hell of a life trip with sadness and pain paying court to the old and the waiting, the waiting for death's easy way of cutting you loose from ungrateful kids and a crazy fucked-up world. EXCUSE the F word, but Susan, it was the only word that fit. Fantastic job here . . .
I have written a chapter called I Am That, I Am in this inspirational compilation book by best-selling authors and wonderful people from all walks of life xox :-D (Its sister book is called Adventures In Manifesting - Success and Spirituality)
And love skipped out of my heart when the devil crept in!!

Been there and done that! Thank God they are only seasons, and in my book ... the shorter the better!
No one needs platitudes during these times, they need wisdom, strength, faith, and perseverance, knowing beyond shadow that this too shall pass.
In faith for a brighter tomorrow ...

You need to go off on a tangent of your own design, to crack the monotony and routine of everyday life...
We are only in a rut, if we allow ourself to become mired in it...
