This poem was written during the last El Nino. One thing about El Nino...it makes the south beautiful in the Winter, as if Dixie needed an excuse to shine.

A Jeweled Day
by Susan K. de Vegter
Here it is a misty morning where Dixie shines through grays
Its like a spring time blossom, not like a cold, damp day
The sun is on the other side just like a bright new smile
Except for cloaks of milky foam t'would be a day so fine
Now and then a sparkle , a string all golden bred
Shoots through like jeweled silk strung out on liquid thread
It rains a mist of silver and when a palm extends
It dresses down the fingers and to the heart it bends
Funny how a day becomes much more for a thought
When beads of fluid love is palmed , caressed, absorbed and caught
Weekend days in Dixie , all warm and not forgotten
Another memory stays with me.. steeped in gentle cotton
Dressed in kind with softness right against the flesh
Emotionally enamored by days that seem to mesh
The likeness of yesterday, the dejavu of bliss
I love the dreary days like this and all the times I missed
Wallowing indoors, rummaging through things
Opening the rusted tears and wakening old dreams.
I'm livin' in the wrong part of the South!!!!!!!!! Seriously, this is gorgeous. Move over, I'm coming your way!! (I wish) Texas isn't bad, but El Nino spawns some naaaaaaasty weather Texas way...had tornadoes on December 29. DECEMBER!!!!!!!!! Nutz. Well done, Susan!

Boy if that doesn't take me back to the days of living downtown on Libery street! Fresh out of college, -not a care in the world, soaking up the moisture of those liquid southern mornings. This is beautiful Susan and I thank you for awakening these memories for me.

Beautiful write and picture, both have me humming that old song, I wish I was Dixie....you described it beautifully, not had the chance to spend much time there, only passed through, I thought it was stunning would love to come and spend a week or two...the ending of your poem reminds me of my recent post...A Haven...My Space...we are on the same waves...enjoyed!

A lovely poetic description of replenishment after the event. Gorgeous image as well. I can almost smell the foliage and feel the warm spring sunshine oozing from its brightness. Both your reflection and the image complement each other.
Your last line is worth storing away for worse days. .. a rare one.
The whole of this work is marvelous and good enough to eat.
My favorite words, however, are these, "...days that seem to mesh
the likeness of yesterday, the dejavu of bliss." How delicious!

You awaken old dreams in us too. And what a lovely picture. You know I've never been to US, but really if I were to come I'll make a beeline to the south. Victor
Though I have never had the pleasure of being to the South, as an old Canuck I long to see the places where I can wear shorts even in Oct, Nov Jan etc. Your physical and emotional descriptions of your land bring me into it with the sights, sounds and smells I will look forward to someday sampling.
This might be one of my favorites of yours, Susan...loved the lilt and the words, though I realize unintentional, almost describe this charming home...when can I move to Savannah and enjoy her romance?

The dulcet lilting tone of your voice reading this poem,in my imagination and the lovely pastel colours of the photo could not weave a more intoxicating glimpse of the wonder and beauty that abounds in our lives. Really enjoyed this.
love you,

A beautiful Natural picture and poem, but did old Mom Nature put that parking meter in there & I bet that that ivy makes a helluva insulator in cooler temps...Ed

In "A Touch of Your Presence" are words that would inspire, encourage and strengthen one's soul when faced with challenges and difficulties and to know the awesomeness of God's power.
