I once was where you are now,
Or somewhere near to there.
Desperately seeking a place to rest,
And another my burdens to share.
Too many places I have been
Where heart and soul cry out.
Too many sorrows I have seen,
Much pain and fear and doubt.
But I journey now to a better place
On a rough and narrow track.
It leads me on to a faraway land
And there's no stopping or turning back.
But my heart looks back to where you are,
And my soul your pain does share.
And I would reach my hands to you,
Were it not so far 'tween here and there.
So as I journey on my way
I may never see you face to face,
But I throw to you these lines of life
That you may follow to that faraway place.
