sixty-two years. . .
didn't have an impact
on the widower's heart
like the impact of the day
she flew away...

eight decades young. . .
she held on until
the final bell toll'd
the day after her birth
at half-past dawn
her soul and the sky
together blend'd in song

packing nothing
she left so unexpectedly
for a higher plane,
a stately palace, and
her scent'd Avon bottles
hold their place
on the mantle of the hearts
of those she loved so much

more than a hint of
a Ruby-rare  fragrance,
like haunt of Persian Wood,
a Topaz of brilliance
a firey Sapphire of joy
the marks of her smile in our spirits
like a hummingbird swiftly beating
the air with tireless wings
are proof she is still quite near,
and even though she left our touch,
she holds  life like a sovereign souvenir
breathing spirit scents of cedar and myrrh,
while kicking up her heels
on a beach of crystal waters
against golden dunes of cherubs castles,
hide tide will never wash them away.

MUNCIE - Ruby Jeanette Metzcar, 80, Muncie resident, passed away, Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky, the daughter of James W. and Minerva Marie (Baden) Purtee. She lived in Indianapolis, Atlanta, IN, and Muncie before moving to Yorktown and graduating from Yorktown High School in 1945.
Mrs. Metzcar was a beautician for many years and owned and operated Ruby’s Beauty Shop and was a beautician at Rainbow Beauty Shop.

She attended Industry United Methodist Church; enjoyed singing and had been a member of the YWCA Chorus and the Sweet Adelines. She had a special interest in hummingbirds.

Malcolm and Ruby loved to travel throughout the United States and world-wide. Surviving are her husband, Malcolm D. Metzcar, to whom she had been married 62 years; her daughter, Arlene Murphy, (husband, Gary), Jackson, TN; her son, John Michael Metzcar, (wife, Sue), Muncie; four grandchildren, Ryan Murphy, (wife, Michelle), Jackson, TN, Jenny Tritt, (husband, Darren), Jackson, TN, John Metzcar, (wife, Mindy), Bloomington, and Mary Fleming, (husband, Todd), Muncie; her step-great-granddaughter, Melanie Welch; her brother, Jim Purtee, (wife, Jane), Seattle, Washington; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Al Ross, Yorktown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Ellen Purtee.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2008, at Parson Mortuary with Pastor John Malzahn officiating.

Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to services Monday at the mortuary.
