FROM DROUGHT TO FLOOD
(Thought Starved)
One minute you’re mowing the grass
then all the sudden it hits you.
Turn off the mower and find a pen,
you’ve finally gotten a clue.
You could be in the shower,
or driving down the road,
suddenly the thoughts pile up
and you simply must unload.
If I don’t write them down
or record them on my “portable brain”
somehow they just disappear
like tear drops in the rain.
At times I’ll sit for hours,
but the words I just can’t find.
I’ve found some time to write,
but nothing’s coming to mind.
My mind is in a drought,
the thoughts just will not form,
but “Beware,” as Momma said,
“of the calm before the storm.”
First your crops won’t grow,
you could use a little “rain,”
then you’re in a flood
as the words overflow your brain.
Once you plant the seeds
and the thoughts begin to flow,
it’s sometimes so surprising,
the ideas that will grow.
Finally when the mood strikes,
and puts a match to your desire,
suddenly the words ignite
and it becomes a raging fire..
Some of my best work
has only taken a moment,
other times you can dwell for hours,
but no one would have known it.
You can pour our your heart & soul
sharing all your thoughts,
but if you’re not in the proper mood
somehow it goes for naught.
It might come out as silly rhymes,
as the words just bounce around,
but when I get it right
it's sometimes quite profound.
I don’t call myself a poet,
but I like writing rhymes
and since I joined the Authors Den,
I’ve experienced some fantastic times.
There are truly talented people
contributing to the site.
Though I don’t have their talent
occasionally I get one right.
My self assigned homework
for my daily self taught lesson,
try to convey my feelings
after another thought starved session.
