A FEW WORDS ABOUT LOVE
Denny Crain from Boston Legal
was a character I never much admired.
Though he had his moments,
he never left me feeling inspired.
But he said, “It’s better to want,
something you can’t have,
than to have something
you don’t want.
There’s wisdom in those words
beyond any I could muster.
Your lover’s most precious asset
is if you can always trust her.
Add love to the equation
and things get real complicated,
but love’s over all importance,
just can’t be overstated.
On Gray’s Anatomy they said,
“Living with a woman
who can’t love you back
is way lonelier than living alone.”
I don’t know who spoke the line,
and wouldn’t say that I agree
but living a lonely life
has also been a part of me.
“Every year, I get a little more selective
and a lot less desirable .”
Two qualities that I think make
finding love much less viable.
Golden Earring sang a song,
Twilight Zone, by name.
The most repeated line,
“When the bullet hits the bone.”
I didn’t memorize the song
and I couldn’t speak to it’s meaning,
but when the bullet hits the bone,
love’s the way I’m leaning.
In The Horse Whisperer
Robert Redford said,
“I didn’t love her because it was right,
I just loved her.”
It’s wasn’t something he controlled,
but for him, it was a fact.
It was more about what he was
than about what he may have lacked.
In Adaption,
Nicolas Cage, as Donald Kaufman said,
“You are what you love,
not what loves you.”
Again it’s not about control,
maybe more about being controlled
Love is but a virtue
about which to be extolled.
I can’t say I know the meaning
of all these fantastic quotes,
but when it’s all said and done,
she still "Floats my boat."
As my daddy used to say,
and I’m now quoting him.
“If you want the fruit, sometimes
you’ve got to go out on a limb.”

I can vouch for this Dick! 32 years with my ex and I was so lonely my soul just dried up! 2 years later, and by myself, I was alone and filled with goodness!
