THE PICTURE IN MY MIND
Two empty wine bottles,
two glasses waiting to be filled.
A dark spot on the carpet
where someone likely spilled.
A stereo remote control,
an ashtray with several butts.
A candle burned to a stub
and a bunch of I wonder what’s.
The lights are turned down low,
there’s an unopened condom pack.
The blankets have been messed up
and he lie’s there on his back.
Hands folded behind his head,
a smile upon his face,
he knows he’d rather be right here,
than any other place.
You’d think that they’d just finished,
but really they’ve yet to start.
Though they’ve already embraced,
and already she owns his heart.
There’s music in the background,
she’s playing a country tune,
then she sees his naked cheeks
and then begins to swoon.
Soon she’ll come to snuggle,
he’ll wrap her in his arms.
They’ll kiss a time or two,
she’ll succumb to all his charms.
This happens every now and then,
but probably not often enough.
His mind still engages,
but he's too old to strut his stuff.
Still, they manage to get by,
now and then comes an occasion.
They just seem to come together
without a great deal of persuasion.
He’s thankful for BLUE MAGIC.
She’s said a few thank you’s too.
If not for this new medicine
they’d be so limited in what they do.
