I prefer the poem,
as to the short story charm.
Poems are faster,
a short mind blaster.
Short stories are longer,
many words stronger.
Can't hardly rhyme a story,
try and you might be sorry.
Very few like writing books,
the idea really spooks.
Poems are short expression,
can be wrote in succession.
Express it short,
short story abort.
We all make our choices,
how to speak our voices.
Whether it's short or long,
we can't go wrong.

I like to write both - the stories and the poems.
Yes, I agree a poem does not take as long to write as it is in a story. Whenever I thought of something important, I always write down the points, then later on it forms a poem.
If I had the time to expand all my poems to stories I will also do that, for I like to write stories too. As a writer, I like to write both.
I don't think anyone has to rhyme a story. All my stories didn't rhyme, but they are stories.
