Remembering finding your soul mate for the first time...

Return to the Good Times

© Jaimey Perham 01/25/2010

Woke up this winter morn
Had my cup of strong black Joe
Felt like a million bucks
Just like a winner on one of those posh reality shows
Jumped into my small shower stall
Had myself the coldest shower of all
Got my brain cells moving a billion times a second
My blood flowing a trillion times more
It’s a return to the good times
Yes indeed a return to the old
A return to when times were much different than now
Back when the good times were in front of me
Rather than behind
Walked into work with a smile on my face
Said hi to my fellow employees
Sat down at my desk and typed away
A rush of energy pumped through my veins
Cruised through my workload in less than an hour
Took my lunch break at my favorite bistro
Talked to my old buddy behind the meat counter
He who makes my favorite one footer
It’s a return to the good times
Yes indeed a return to the old
A return to when times were much different than now
Back when the good times were in front of me
Rather than behind
Returned home to my apartment in the hills
Tossed off my worn out shoes
Walked over to my sofa and crashed down on the pillows
Picked up the remote and tuned into my favorite show
Laughed at the funny little people dancing around the screen
Picked up the phone and called my true sweet one
Made planes for dinner at our favorite restaurant
The one where everyone is welcome
It’s a return to the good times
Yes indeed a return to the old
A return to when times were much different than now
Back when the good times were in front of me
Rather than behind
Drove my shiny new sports car up to her house
Flowers scattered around the front porch
Knocked on the heavy wood door
My beauty appears decked out in eye popping apparels
Drove to our favorite restaurant
Had steak cooked to perfection and dessert to be desired?
Walked out and down to the local beach
To glaze upon the stars on this crisp dark night
It’s a return to the good times
Yes indeed a return to the old
A return to when times were much different than now
Back when the good times were in front of me
Rather than behind
Got lost looking into her deep soulful eyes
Sitting there on the beach under beaming stars of light
The small waves crashed against the sand
As I took her hand and popped the question?
She looked back at me with delight and joy
With just a nod of the head I knew I had my answer
We didn’t leave that beach till the bright morning sun appeared
But that didn’t matter because it was one of those days that had a future!
It’s a return to the good times
Yes indeed a return to the old
A return to when times were much different than now
Back when the good times were in front of me
Rather than behind
