Makeup smoothed over your face
Lashes blackened and curled
Lips outlined and filled in with color
Cheeks blushing rosey pink

Hair, long loose curls
Corset laced so tight
Black lace stockings held with garters
Cover long curvey legs

Heels so high with pointed toes
A few deep breaths with head held high
Talk the talk and walk the walk
This is your night strut your stuff

Tonight your a queen, Drag Queen

Nancy

I really liked this. I have a warm place in my heart for some wonderful "queens". Life can be such a hard thing for them at times...people refuse to understand. Thank you for just writing this simple, elegant piece that places them as humans...not freaks. I applaud you!

One of Robin Williams best movies was about a Drag Queen. Excellent write and a great character sketch.

So often I don't understand why people do what they do or dress as they do but I know I would rather not judge them than to have to walk in their shoes.

nancy, i like this. i like the set up that brings us to the last line, but in a poem like this, where you're describing someone's dress, you really need to make the language interesting.
