Where I Belong

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about letting go and finally realizing where you are meant to be.

Sunday, March 2, 2008

Alone in a crowd on a cold winter's night
I dream you are there by my side
Your soul, next to mine; our love ready for flight
Across our future's Great Divide
I stare at the moon, as it smiles back at me
Just as you had done for so long
Yearning for the love not yet ready to be
While knowing I'm where I belong.

Lost in the dark as the snow piles high
I see your face in every drift
The vision enables my heart to get by
Your memory provides a lift
I pause to remember the happier hours
The moments we could do no wrong
But, I trust my life is led by higher powers
And know that I'm where I belong.

Trapped in a world filled with hopeful embraces
I long to hold you once again
Until that day, I'll find peace in the traces
Of our love and what might have been
I'll never forget how well we fit together
Our hearts beat in time with each song
I'll always miss you, but the hard times I'll weather
Certain, I am where I belong.

Letting go, and accepting... a difficult task sometimes...
knowing you are where you belong at each instant in time is a beautiful gift indeed.

letting go is never easy...even when it is desparately necessary....
This is a wonderful piece of verse, my friend....grand in flow and imagery, splendid rhyme scheme it has the flavor of both the sonnet and ballad.
Outstanding work here.

Man, I don't even know you, yet your poetry makes my man thing wanna give yer heaps of TLC and protection. Maybe through poetry we know some people better than those who are wed or friends?
Your poetry makes a bloke like soft putty. Half of Texas must be queueing for jill the pretty poety, and diamond words....

Beautiful realization that it's time to move on - and being contented with the decision - perfect. Well done, Jill, stay safe, hear some bad weather's on the way -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Enchanted write Jill that nurtures the reality of love and longing and what happens when that love cannot be. We do not stop loving just because someone says we should, no, we tuck it away in a special place and withdraw it now and then to gaze on the beauty of what might have been...

Beautiful write. Know that feeling of being torn between two places or things, like memory and reality and the hopful wish they will become one in the same.

This is so very touching! We are, I suppose , all where we belong. Yet, there are places we can only wish we were instead...and people we can only wish were still here...and there is nothing wrong with that...as long as you know, as you seem to, that you are where you should be. May you always be there,
Jim
