My Special Easter

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

This poem conveys a true story. I was hospitalized for a neurosurgery and was released on Easter Sunday, twenty-two years ago -- my health fully restored. Easter is always more meaningful to me, as a result; I am always grateful for my good health.

I hope all of you have a blessed, safe, and Happy Easter weekend!

Poem Artwork

Easter is a special time for me in many ways
It is a day when I must stop and give eternal praise
For the many blessings I have, such as my liberty
I thank you, Lord, for giving up your own life, just for me.

Easter is a special time; a moment for myself
To pause and smile, grateful to God, for my much improved health
On Easter 1986, good fortune found its way
Into my life, as I went home; wellbeing, here to stay.

That Easter came as a surprise; my family never dreamed
I would be going home that day and their countless smiles beamed
A five year old who’d gone through much in both her surgeries
Was soon home hunting Easter eggs upon her hands and knees.

I never will forget that day, twenty-two years ago
The gratitude I feel inside is more than most will know
The struggles of a childhood, marred by health’s bitter sword
Ceased on the day we celebrate the Rebirth of Our Lord.

This is beautiful, Jill. Easter is a special time for me too, as I became engaged to my wonderful husband on Easter Sunday nineteen years ago. And... my son passed away shortly after Easter 12 years ago. But, having just heard the story of the resurrection so recently before his death, we were able to concentrate on the hope of the resurrection instead of his death.

Thanks for sharing this!

Deep gratitude, indeed. At Easter too, your life was revived. Very powerful, your folks must have gone through hell during that time...
