A spine, dirtied by years of wear
With pages, worn and tattered
Its yellowed soul chooses to bear
Her views, for they had mattered
The timeless, ageless thoughts of peace
Of hope and earthen beauty
Though aged, its purpose shall ne’er cease –
To spread wise words its duty.
A cover, faded to light blue
Holds messages inside
Each one, a testament to you
With love, never denied
Some sheets within its shell are turned
Those passages still shine
Years later, each tells how you yearned
For her, your Valentine.
Your Valentine may now be gone
But, she is not forgotten
Her words of love shall linger on
For you to ponder often
The sentiments she always wrote
But, struggled to convey
Are found within each tender note
Inside that book, each day.
The binding keeps each precious thought
Tucked safely for all time
Once just a simple gift you bought
Now, holds each caring rhyme
In memories of love’s embrace
Both heartfelt and sincere
A piece of Heaven’s gentle grace
Shall remain, year to year.
Throughout her life, she sat alone
With words and quill at hand
You felt you spent your time alone
Wearing a wedding band
But, much too late, thanks to the book
You’ve come to realize why
Thanks to the measures that she took
To love beyond goodbye.
