Long Ago and Faraway

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

Illness and busy times in my life have kept me from writing as much, this month, but I found this poem, written in 2007, and never shared here.

I hope you enjoy it!

Long ago and faraway
From the world, here and now
I can recall a simpler day
Beside the willow’s bough
The beauty was, indeed, serene
The site was quite a treasure
The beauty was lovely and clean
Beyond what words could measure.

Long ago and faraway
Infinite hours removed
One glimpse toward a floral bouquet
Could leave my mind improved
The vibrant shades of pink and white
The softness, tied in lace
Would fill my soul with sheer delight
No one could e’er replace.

Long ago and faraway
From the present I see
I can recall a simpler day
Spent by the willow tree
A time when flowers, by design
Were a quaint work of art
When given by my Valentine
As a gift from his heart.

Faraway and long ago
Have now become the past
Yet, in fondness, my memories grow –
Each stronger than the last
So, I will keep the simpler days
Tucked closely to my core
Where each will rest in peace, always
As priceless as before.

A heart's delight. Memory is a wonderful thing, it keeps the best of the past for sweet memories when we can no longer experience them.

Reading the poem is like hearing a string of water tiptoeing over rocks above and quietly entering the waiting golden pond.
Coming from far away and long ago we can hear those rocks giving a sigh as they, thirsty, lick the offering as it goes by.
