Modes on Time* (Dedicated to Rage of Reason)

by Robin Ouzman Hislop — Read all 170 poems by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Reply of Rage of Reason: Hi Robin Ouzman Hislop: I''ve wondered for a long time how there can be so much force in the conditioning of man, biologically, mentally and spiritually, that he is only capable of experiencing linear time traveling mainly in one direction that he calls future, ignoring or being unaware of the infinite number of directions time also moves in. Is it only this conditioning or is there something else also determining the way we experience existence? These questions are the engine of my considerations. Take care, Rage

since dawn´s creation
or our arising,
we´ve mused on time.

present promise future´s
fulfillment postpones
indefinitely.

we predicate time
as though we´re
the centre universe:

predicate present
as promise
of future fufillment.

substitution:
fallacious
prophecy of self fufillment:

loss & gain,
reward & punishment,
recognition & fame.

life predicates,
on the nebulous present
we predicate,

its unpredictability
& time
without a pretence.

Hi Robin,
I can’t say I agree Waldron’s supposition, that time is only relative in relation the human condition.
To say that eternity cannot then quantified by the law of physics
is directly relative to the exponential of the examination.
If one accepts God as a fact, how does one quantify eternity?
at some point there has to be a correlation.
I think it was the ancient Egyptians who
referred to that particular aspect of time as Shen.
Good reading, encouraging seeing some deep thinking
rather than the usual bland acceptance.
Mor.

I must also confess an obsession with Time and its kiss of death. The present, ah yes, we move time with our being, portion it, adore or hate it, curse or thank its indifference. A very intriguing write, Robin, twisty and threading back to the beginning, our awareness of Time. And, brazenly, we claim it even as it claims us. I've got a piece I've been thinking on about Time, you may have nudged me to get to work on it, thanks! :)

Btw, I changed snug in 'Fragility Framed' to this:

fairy lace and glass-dulled sheen,
placed in my heart treasured song.

It is what I originally had, then tried to rhyme dug, which wasn't a good idea! Thanks for comment on its ineffectiveness, it was a sad error on my part. :)

Time is something I haven't got much of, these days. I find your philosophy very interesting. Thanks for visiting my site, and for your comments.

Time is only time
when we allow it to be time.

Throw away the time
and we are one big mass of suspension -

No past,
no present,
and no future.

Let the universe be our guide,
when we fall into...

Nothingness!

Time is one of my obsessions. I keep telling myself that the present is eternity and eternity is now. I love this philosophical viewpoint of yours. Thank you for this offering. Love and peace, Regis.
