Tranquil ease is happiness;
A superfluity is injurious --
So it is with all earthly things
Especially it is so
Where the superfluity
Is of riches and wealth.
All those who strive for them
Bitterly distress their bodies
And deny themselves what is pleasant
And restrict themselves
To a bare sustenance
In order to sustain their life.
So they have life-long stress,
And long-continued pressure,
And unceasing apprehension
And even endless nightmares
Until their death arrives, alas,
At it an unearthly hour there.
