Bitter and Sweet

by Christine Boyce — Read all 8 poems by Christine Boyce

Dedicated to Sage Sweetwater--sweets for the sweet, from the bittersweet.

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

My idea of you:

Daring dreamer!

My idea of you:

Optimist only!

My ideal of you.

Out from under the bed,

out of the closet

like an unlaudered sock

or a cracked tea mug

comes my weakness

a weaker kind of weakness

than most weaknesses.

I love your imagination,

And the vivid scenes

 Love lover,

You give easily,

write openly,

please greatly;

But I'm struggling to lift in myself

this basic (heavy) thing—

to give,

and write

and please,

(As a half-hearted world-hater

cannot please)

Half-lover.

It's not hard at all to critique a poem that is dedicated to me ... narcissist? Yes ... at times. I read between the lines ... everything starts out as a half-something. Gestalt is a whole-something. Struggling is necessary. This is just a dress rehearsal for something so much bigger. Thanks for the dedicated space you put forth on this page, Christine. It means a great deal!
