Woe To Those Leprechauns

by Edie M. Batstone — Read all 134 poems by Edie M. Batstone

Sure, St. Patrick's Day is near upon us, so I've pulled out my Irish Wit and donned my leprechauns' hat to come up with a wee bit of poetic fun to add to the day. I hope it tickles your funny bone and gives you a big warm smile - No matter your nationality, Irish or not, smiling eyes are precious and will always steal hearts away!

Woe To Those Leprechauns!
or
Don't mess with Auntie Laura!

Sure and begorrah!
Cried poor Auntie Laura,
Those imps I'll be giving a chase;
They've stole all my baking,
My pies they've been taking,
And left only gold
In their place!

I try to be humble,
But my apple crumble
Is worth more than all of their gold,
And it's no surprise
That those little green guys
Took all of the treats
They could hold.

But you can be betting,
A trap I'll be setting,
They won't get away with their tricks;
I'll bake some surprises,
With gold nugget prizes
That will leave their wee teeth
Full of nicks!

Sure, don't worry a bit,
They 're blessed with great wit,
To help them get past toothy trials,
And on St. Paddy's Day,
They'll be singing away,
With shiny gold caps
In their smiles!

This is as fine a tribute to the Irish as I've read in many a year.
May the road rise up to meet ye, Edie Batstone.
And may the wind be always at yer back.
And may your spirit be in Heaven half an hour
before the devil knows yer dead.

As long as they leave my Lucky Charms alone. They're magically delicious.

The Irish sure seem to have a vivid imagination, especially after imbibing at the local pub a bit too much. I thoroughly enjoyed your fun romp through Irish lore in this little piece of poetry.

Hahaha. The 17th is my birthday. I related to this. Fun stuff. Still have my real teeth though.
A Saint Patrick's Day Toast:
Here's to a long life and a merry one
A quick death and an easy one
A pretty girl and an honest one
A cold beer - and another one.
Peace... r
