Prompted by the highly encouraging comments of an amazing Poet, E. W. Richardson, I dare trying my hand at poetic prose again.
(My thanks to Anita – Pax A, another amazing Poet – for guiding me to Aimea’s extraordinary website, where I found the work of art illustrating this piece)

The surprise of calm (poetic prose)

You surprise me with calm. Unhurriedly, with no frenzies. With no disorderly mysteries, with no intricacies, with none of those sparkles that blind more than they attract, with none of those sudden bursts of flame that consume themselves and go out as suddenly.

You surprise with the calm perceptibility of well-known things. Of the caresses that go to sleep on the warmth of skin, but upon it awaken a soft, even warmer receptiveness. Of the scents that colours exhale. Of the colours that the palate discerns, ripe or not quite yet. Of the singularity of each kiss in the recurring mergence of mouths.

You surprise me with the calm of intimacies in self-revelation. Like doorframes disappearing upon walls that dissolve. Like veils of air that the breath lifts.

You surprise me with the calm of a corner of morning. A rounded corner, like a semi-open cocoon. A corner where one would calmly sit, face to face with the profusion of possible hues in wings to unfurl, back to back with the lenient clarity of those filaments that previous stages of a natural metamorphosis have interwoven.

You surprise me with the calm of one who enters days gently, and awakens dreams with tenderness. The same tenderness, intrinsic, of one who embraces, one by one, the supple sounds that answer the call of silence, with the serene elation of all which is and feels welcome – a trill, a giggle, a murmur of water, the languid crack of a tree that the sap, balmy, begins to dilate, the soft thud of a fruit on the grass.

You surprise me with the calm of one who loves like only you love. That love with its source in the primal depths of you, and gaining, as you share yourself, the momentum of a wave. A wave that engulfs me, then crests my salt in your foam… and then consummates itself when it expands us, as one. With the surprising calm of wholeness.

Xuxa, meu Amor...

Surprised was I, with calm,
to discover you
walking through the forest
of my dreams.

Surprised was I, with calm,
to discover you
lying naked beside
the stream where I flowed.

Surprised was I, with calm,
to discover us
taking a drink
from each other's lips.

Amo te muito,
Teu Joseph

For me, the surprise of calm would be to be able to take a long, ambient stroll through the fragrant corridors of your mind, dear Alexandra. Your images and concepts tantalize my thoughts like exotic hot-house flowers and make me feel womb-rich and opulent. How you first conceive of such wonderfully sensorial yet radiantly lucid images and metaphors leaves me faint. You provid us ALWAYS with a piquant feast and satisfy the poetic hunger you create. You bring the surprising calm of wholeness to body, mind and spirit. Bless you and thank you, in your OneLightedness! :)) Kate xx

If this was just trying your hand at poetic prose...I can't imagine what kind of marvels you will giving us when you don't try.
Excellent Alexandra, excellent!
