Canaanite – A Song of Longing
Longing folds around warm fleshed moments
like crushed velvet, the colour of crushed grapes
not quite yet turned into wine.
Skin tingles tightly, to inner cymbals anticipating
the arrival of the beloved – about to rise from
dancing fingertips.
Then, suddenly, breath rips and drips
through it all, as breasts peak to milk and honey
at the edge of promised lips – and hips sway
like devout hailing, to a dusky valley, the dawning
of redemption.
Readiness breaks open, like a pomegranate -
and glory unfolds, anointed and naked.
