The showers of Spring

The thunderous roar vibrates
winds blow cool gusts about
the smell of its impending arrival
looms above in the grey skies
midday skies darkened omenously

The atmosphere braces
the tension is felt as it nears
and suddenly, a cloud bursts open!
cool drops splatter the warm earth
winds howl, tossing the shuddering leaves
of young saplings ,and the petals of new blossoms

Children squeal in starlted delight
as they run beneath the raindrops
the smell of dampened earth makes
the storm a welcome arrival
to cool the earth and renew life

I sit on my porch and smile
eyes closed, I enhale deeply and moan
as the wind blows, streaming like
invisible fingers, through my hair
and nothing seems to exist except me,
and the quiet behind the rain

A storm can be exhilarating, Denise; you express this most effectively in your verses here. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

Denise I echo everyone here. My only wish is that I can know such beauty, even in a rainstorm, without thinking of the dark days that I spent in lost youth, hidden from the world because of an unloving mother. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little terrifed sister, Barbie

You describe the storms I wish we had...living in Texas, we have some whoppers, replete with hail and tornadoes...sigh. You bring back memories of rainfalls in Ohio, when I was young...thank you, this is a beautiful write. :) Saving it to enjoy again and again.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

ahhh Denise, sweet write and wonderful imagery as a lover of spring rain myself knowing it brings life to the earth I can almost feel myself sitting in a rocker beside you picking my six string and singing summer songs.

Perhaps the 2nd greatest event in human history. Four friends and colleagues. One is taken, three are left behind.
