They tell you to quit smoking;
everyone knows they're not joking.
And so with all your gusto;
you pursue the best punctilio.
You ask them to cut you some slack;
irritablilty rears its head, please, no flak.
Withdrawal symptoms you can hardly bear;
now you're ready to pull out your doggone hair.
Don't get mad, get really glad;
no need to become hopelessly sad.
You're doing your best, that should suffice;
why should your feelings be put on ice?
Not a one ever justifies the habit;
those who want to help, be considerate.
Some start out by keeping it outside;
will they receive support, stay the tide?
Oh how stupid those smokers are;
the smell, the smoke, they get the scar.
And yet God loves each one of them;
you and me too, let us not contemn.
It all boils down to this you see;
to show unconditional love and mercy.
If a quitter backslides, offer gentle support;
never let that necessary support group abort.
