Painted vestal ladies of the sky straining against tether lines anchoring you to mother earth as ships of sea did long ago heat billowing out your hoop like balloon skirts rising on the currents of blasted heated air brash bright colors of strength against blue sky
puffed out to full extension you take heavenly flight untethered gaining height, traversing over land craggy cliffs off in the hazy obscured distance spear like peaks reaching out and up to you precipice of an unwanted harrowing fate you aspire to climb higher with increased buoyancy celebration in exhalation after you glide up and over to then view a panorama of a forest countryside
I have always wanted to go for a hot air balloon flight, we get them coming over our house quite often. Castle Howard is just a few miles from us and they sometimes have a special event staged there. One summer day a few years ago, they staged a hot air balloon event and there must have been over a hundred of them came our way, all different shapes, cups, teapots, telephone boxes, teddy bear etc., plus of course the normal design. What a colourful spectacle that was. Your poem has renewed my desire for a flight in one. Jackie <> <
PS: Thank you for your comment on Singularity. As you probably saw in the header of the poem, my husband wrote it...and he doesn't write poetry very much, but I loved this one and asked if I could post it on AD for everyone to see it. Thank you again. ;)
Married ten years, and more in love than ever, Robert and Marcie have everything to live for. But a terrible secret is breaking Robert's heart: he knows that Marcie is about to die...
