Enlightenment is the Torch held high,
The seven spikes, the corners of the world,
The crown reaches up and touches the sky,
Roman toga in green copper unfurled.
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”1
The torch a beacon of freedom for all,
Bondage gone, slavery's chains broken
The head held high, proud and tall
Americans see it as a promise unspoken.
The beacon has shown since 1887,
People have come with only dreams
To gain on earth their piece of heaven
And all do praise Liberty’s themes.
“Lord, help me to shoulder The Burden of Freedom And give me the courage To Be What I Can And When I am Wounded By those who condemn me Lord, help me forgive them They don't understand”2
From the people of France
To the people of the New Land
It says please give peace a chance
That forever united we’ll stand
“Freedom, give it to me That's what I want now Freedom, that's what I need now Freedom to live Freedom, so I can give “3
Bartholdi’s vision, Eiffel’s engineering
America’s beautiful welcoming porch light
The promise, the hope never disappearing
From the ocean a truly wondrous sight.
“Lady, the most beautiful in the world You will take care of all those Who look up to you For a chance to be free In this country America Where we all can have Freedom in a land with democracy In this country America The land of opportunity “ 4
