Life is like a chain
Each event a link
Every link a strain
A reason to think
Every heartache a chink
As the pain tempers us
Strengthening each link
Beginning the next nexus
Each new event a plus
Completing a full circle
Each day a new bonus
Putting us to the anvil
Shaping us in an oval
Showing us we’re alive
That is the marvel
Living to survive
