I believe what I see on TV

Or if I read it in the news

I discuss the topic of the day

And let the pundits shape my views

I don't vote because I'm too scared

To tell my boss I need time off

(I won't give it, not today!)

I have no voice because my country

Never listens anyway

I take care of my own

No one else's

I watch the latest movies

Buy the books I'm told to buy

I believe every advertisement

Why? I don't know why.

I'm a political sort of person. I can't imagine not voting because my boss wouldn't like it. I asked for, and got the day off, on election day.

This is one that I want to take and run with, editing a bit and adding my own two cents. Really like the first four and last four lines. I guess it's my political enthusiasm that wants to plug in my own words in the middle. You may have started something, since my muse died of "shock and awe." Don't worry, I won't plagerize this, I'll just play with it for my own satisfaction. Thanks for the inspiration!
