These streets are dead and lonely
the alleys dark and dreary
Who would think one day I'd be
homeless and so weary
"Hello , my friend please do come in
I haven't much but I will share."
"How did you come to end up here?"
On lonely street, without a care.
"Let me tidy up my little home
Make room for you to warm your bones
I haven't much but a little bread
A thermos of coffee a warm soft spread."
The visitor sat down in the cardbox home
he felt such love from this man of old
he had counted the times that the man had shared
He knew God was pleased he knew that he cared
"You asked me how I ended up here?
Well It's a story sad and true
I lost everything that I held dear
A fire, you see took my family
I couldn't focus I lost my job
Found myself walking the streets alot
Met a man who invited me here
I had found a friend I held so dear
He's long past gone and I often cry
He gave me many treasures that I hold dear."
The man was pleased to see such love
He prayed with him to God above
The treasures he held were kept inside
Not in his home but in his heart
Was wisdom, and love and God's word that he shared
Nothing else could compare
"You passed the great test that many have failed
love and sharing giving and caring
You opened your home this simple abode
Gave me all that you had, your heart is as gold
"Your mansion awaits you just over the hill
You'll find many treasures, and friends there as well"
The angel thanked him then said goodbye,
the old man smiled and then he died
