She had the prettiest smile of them all,

As I saw her dancing at the ball.

I had never seen her before,

But before this night was over, I wanted more.

I made inquires as to where she was from,

And to my amazement, She lived close by.

I knew some of her girl friends

And let them know I was interested in her.

One day when talking to a friend

She walked by and I said hello.

She smiled and it took my breath away,

As she said, do I know you?

I left my friend and joined her.

We chatted with some small talk,

And I asked her for a date to a movie.

She surprised me and said OK.

She gave me her address to pick her up

And when I arrived I met her parents.

Her dad and mother were wonderful to me,

And asked me to stay for some lunch.

This was the beginning of a long friendship,

Of many dates scattered in between.

The war came along and I was drafted,

But her letters came to me on a regular basis.
